I'm still on 32-bit version (no Core 2 Duos of my own) and am absolutely loving it...worth a shot...but I'm admittedly biased towards Mint...

Im having a lot of problems with Mint 7, for some reason things are slower than in Mint 5.

Im running the 32bit version of LM7 and its been great.

The only problem I have is that all the ATI drivers designed for xorg 1.6 (which LM7 uses) no longer support my video card (FireGL v5200), so I spose I'll have to find some open source ones.

Actually scratch my previous comment, the problem was due to inadequate partition space.

mint consumes like 19w of power even after i tried powertop, while it consumes 12w in windows vista/7. hope it'll improve soon. using a T61 btw.

George, it took me this long to get around to trying the 32bit version, but this is the nicest distro I have ever used. My new favorite. Everything just works out of the box on my Intel T43. I particularly like the gecko media player plugin standard in Firefox (Shoutcast .pls user here). Thanks for the recommend.

I have Mint 7 Gloria running on a 2gig SD card in a usb adapter and it runs great on all the PC's in the house and at work. What a great OS.

I did have an issue after downloading the updates so I wiped the first install and started over again. Has anyone encountered issues after running the updates? I had no mouse and the login screen would do a continuous loop. Also no way to put the Firefox icon on the desktop or taskbar. Did a workaround on that one but still miss having the internet icon on the desktop.

I recently install Mint 7 32 bit on my R61.
And I am impressed !
Everything just worked. The only slight problem I encountered was the keyring pass on boot for wireless.
But a quick Google fixed that.
I'm running Gnome desktop. Because I just haven't really taking a liken to KDE4 yet.
I would say that Mint is one of the nicest distro's out there right now.

Battery life seems to be pretty good. And temps are great.

What desktop you running? Icons can be added with Gnome.

Hey Doog, long time no see!. I'm glad you like this distro, it's great. Quick question, how do you bypass the keyring password for WiFi?

Right click network icon lower right.
click on wireless and then click on your network. Then click on edit.
And at the bottom of that page check box that says allow all users.
And log out or shut down. And it shouldn't ask for the keyring pass anymore. And should connect up.
I'm not on my R61 so I am just going from memory. Sometimes that is a little short

I have been trying to look at the forum once a week. This fall I will be more into Thinkpads again.

Thanks Doog, that worked well. I also had a prompt coming up at every logon to configure the WWAN connection. I am not currently using WWAN, so I just disabled it in BIOS ... no more prompt. So I'm good to go.

this is the reason i am really weary of using any linux on my x200, im going to go with ubuntu 9.04 64 bit, just to have it, i figure it might get updated to the new hard ware quicker then mint 7 (although they should get their updates around the same speed), this sketchy hardware support from linux as a whole seems to ragtag out of the box, while it works quite well, small things like power management or temperature control behaving a lot different then windows makes me weary. i have hope for linux, maybe next ubuntu 64 bit LTS i can get rid of windows altogether.

If you have an older Thinkpad like a T23 or a T30, try Linux Mint 7 Gloria XFCE Edition. I have it running on a T23 (1GB RAM) and it is outstanding.
