Linux docking and undocking to Xbase

I've been running openSUSE and KDE4.2.4 for just over a month on my TPx60s. I've got most things configured the way i want and am now looking at the docking and undocking to the Xbase.

What utilities / scripts are you using to perform the undock and redock? Undocking seems to be the bigger problem because you need to make sure anything connected to the Xbase is unmounted before the undock. In XP an alarm sounds if you try undock before the system is ready. Is this feature available in Linux?

I've seen a utility call Dockutils but it seems to have been abandoned.

I'd appreciate your comments and experiences.

I haven't found any Linux distro that allows hot swaping the dock.
I have an X40 and an X41, and of the two I can only remove the
X41 dock without freezing. Attaching the dock is OK but the CD/DVD
isn't recognized unless it's attached at boot-up. The X40 freezes
up completely.

When I first installed openSUSe, I used gnome which installed Dockutils by default. The undocking seemed to work on that but it didn't unmount any of the devices before undocking. Now I'm using KDE4 and there is no dockutils and I didn't bother installing it as the wiki says it's discontinued.

Do any of the SLED installations have a docking utility or script? I'd have thought if they were selling TPs with SLEd then they would also make provision for using a Xbase and would think they have a docking / undocking solution.

OK, just an update. I found this in the thinkwiki. Half way down it goes into docking and undocking for older versions (using the now obsolete dockutils) and then the bew way of handling it. I don't fully understand it but it's something to start with at least.
