Hey guys. I recently switched from vista to ubuntu 9. Everything works great except the lack of power management. I have looked around this site and have tried some of the things (building kernel etc). I have a 9 cell that lasts 7+ hours in vista but 2 hours in ubuntu. I cant even keep it on my legs cause it gets so dang hot. can someone please give a step by step instruction on how to fix this issue. Thanks guys.

Greetings! There are a variety of tools that intend to make power management on Linux easier to deal with.
Here's a website to get you started:
www.lesswatts.org
There's a tool you can use to get started as well, "powertop"
You can install this through Ubuntu's tools, and run it from a terminal like such: "sudo powertop"
Hopefully this'll get you on the right path.
