GPS with Sierra Wireless MC8780?

#1 Post by Zhenech » Wed Aug 05, 2009 11:21 am

Hey,

did anyone had success using MC8780s GPS under Linux?
It works fine in Windows (Win7 RC1 in KVM with the Sierra attached to it, both with the Sierra 3G Watcher and regular HyperTerminal on COM6 (Sierras NMEA Port)).

However it refuses to give me a NMEA stream on Linux :(
I have three serial devices ttyUSB0,1,2
ttyUSB1 seems to be some proprietary protocol, when GPS is active I get random chars out of it, but nothing gpsd can work with.
on ttyUSB2 I can issue "AT!GPSLOC?" and get my current location, but not in NMEA format, but something readable by humans.

So if anyone has some advice, I'd be glad to listen to it.

Regards
Zhenech
