Pls help for 4500MHD in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bits
Hello,
I have a fairly new install of Ubuntu 9.04 64-bits, kernel 2.6.28-15, on a 15" ThinkPad T500 (2089-2RG) with Intel 4500MHD. Compiz works just fine but Google Earth flickers until unusable. Can I do anything to improve my laptop's graphics performance without any shortcomings in stability? Thanks for your help. I copy the output of a few commands:
$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set)
$ sudo lshw -C display
*-display:0 UNCLAIMED

Re: Pls help for 4500MHD in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bits
Ubuntu 9.04 was released when during a transition of xorg which has led to a poor performance for intel based graphic cards. There is a post on the Ubuntu forums which outlines a solution to the problem, but frankly a much easier solution would be to download and install the Alpha release of 9.10 where those issues were sorted. I have been using 9.10 alpha releases on a couple of machines for since Alpha 4 and excluding a few minor glitches which were quickly fixed, it is quite stable.

I would upgrade to 9.10 when it is released.. (late this month).
Re: Pls help for 4500MHD in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bits
l'll do that. Thanks,

Is your problem solved with Ubuntu 9.10?
I have the same graphics card and I can help you set it up on Linux. It works perfectly here.
But with 9.10 it should work very well.
