w500 has a FireGL V5700 Graphics Card, but lspci shows it is Mobility Radeon HD 3650.

Do I need to update bios?

No, you don't need to update your BIOS; the Mobility FireGL card is based on the Mobility Radeon HD card. It's essentially the same card with some OpenGL features enabled for CAD use. As far as the drivers go, I think you need to use the open-source fglrx driver as the proprietary ATI driver doesn't support the new Xorg server in 9.04. You may want to poke around the Ubuntu forums to find a clear set of instructions regarding installation and configuration.

You don't have to use the open source driver if you prefer the proprietary fglrx as this card is still supported by ATI on the new drivers. I use T500 with the same card and fglrx works fine under 9.04 and 9.10.
