X60s, ubuntu 9.10: no audio output.

My X60s with ubuntu 9.10 suddenly doesn't produce audio output, either thru the speakers or the headphones. I think this just started a couple days ago.

I checked with 'alsamixer', which shows everything turned on OK.

I tried an MP3 with VLC and the visualization showed plenty of waveform, but not a peep out of the speakers.

I get good sound when I boot the old XP partition.

The "Sound Preferences" msgbox from the "System.Preferences" pulldown, shows, in the "Hardware" tab:

Internal Audio
1 output/1 input
Digital Stereo (IEC958) output + 1 analog stereo input

Same problem here with an X61 on Ubuntu 9.10.

The sounds plays back through the ultrabase though !

Found my problem when I had the machine apart to install the WWAN adapter.
The connector for the internal speaker was disconnected
Audio now works fine - although some would argue that the X61 audio with one internal speaker cannot be fine :)
