ubuntu 10.04 on an old radeon 9600

#1 Post by elee123 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 11:18 am

just an fyi to people out there

10.04 is a huge upgrade over the previous 9.10 as far as using the default radeon driver

for once things just work: compiz, compiz without video flicker, firefox scrolling

i was using windows 7 on my t42 because it ran so smooth and the graphics were so slow in ubuntu without proper fglrx support, now the open-source stack took huge strides and i am back to using linux mostly.

Very good to know. I wonder if it'll be the same for the ATI 7500?

If all goes according to plan, I should be testing that out tonight on my A30/p.

It looks like Lucid works fine with my Radeon M6, so most likely also the 7500.
Compiz works and KMS seems to be enabled by default.

Are they supporting the old Radeon models again? Good to know! I used to have an X31 and I (had to) went back to Win7 as Ubuntu's 9.10 lack of drivers support made the video response very sluggish....

Response is still sluggish unless you switch to XAA rendering, you may need to disable KMS as well.
But it seems stable, I haven't spent much time on this though.
