Ubuntu 9.10 and sleep on my X41T

Ok maybe I am just missing something simple but here's the problem in a nutshell:
The system will not sleep when closing the laptop lid or selecting sleep from the shutdown menu.
It will hibernate just fine though.
Am I missing an ACPI event or something?
I wiped the Windows 7 install on this because I really missed linux and my terminal. I've gotten almost everything else to work fine except for rotating the stylus when rotating the screen. I.E. the screen rotates from landscape to portrait, but the stylus does not which of course makes mouse usage a total nightmare. This however is ongoing issue I have experienced in the past and something I am working on resolving.
My main concern is sleep as I (used to) sleep the laptop quite often while going from room to room or driving over to a buddies house, a client, or just taking the system with me. So any help on resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
