Run Ubuntu 10 on T41 more fast the boot time and works WPA??

#1 Post by Amel » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:54 am

Hello, i have XP on my T41, months ago i try Ubuntu9 but boot time is very slow, and also i cant connected to my WPA-PSK network. The network card (intel 2100) support WPA because under XP works ok, but under Ubuntu no logon in my network (i tryed Gnome and KDE, and i think perhaps XFCE too)

Anybody run Ubuntu10 and works ok WPA? The boot time is more fast?

Thanks,
Best regards

Not on a T41, but on my T43p. I've used Ubuntun 9.04, 9.10 and now 10.04 always with WPA2 and never had any problems connecting to my wireless network.

Boot is fast! :D See details here

Cheers

If you want truly fast (and very user friendly) take a look at small but powerful Puppy Linux. It loads into and runs from RAM memory. Its designed to install & use from a CD and can install itself to a USB memory stick (4.xx and newer). Users can easily have it create a save directory that allows you to save settings, programs you install and your data. Consider Puppy 4.31 or the newer Lucid 5.0

The speed of hardware detection and boot from CD usually beats the boot time of installed Ubuntu!
A unofficial ubuntu distro that truly is what Ubuntu should be is superior to and faster & more user friendly than Ubuntu or any distro of the Ubuntu family is
LinuxMint 9

You can get information on different Linux distros at Distrowatch.com, which includes a link to a group that sells professional burns of distros to CD and DVD for a low price. You get links at Distrowatch for downloading distro iso files as well.

If you are new to iso files. There is a excellent very easy to use free iso burning software (a windows program) at download.com. Its called "iso burner"

If you are partial to Ubuntu, consider Xubuntu. Its smaller and faster than Ubuntu & its an official version of the Ubuntu family. I used Xubuntu on a T-23 for a few years, until I switched to Puppy 3.XX, which is a rocket ship compared to anything Ubuntu.

Sleep Mode/Standby and /wakeup/ doesn't work on my T41 in Lubuntu. I was wondering if it's the same situation in Ubuntu 10.04.

The screen changes to a 'haywire' picture... a bunch of colors and jagged lines. It's a frozen state as no keys or key combinations get you out. I have to do a power down (hard reboot).

How do these functions run on your Thinkpads (in Ubuntu 10.04)?

In my T43p and X41 both sleep & standby work without any issues. My friend using my X40 reports no issues neither but he's using Linux Mint, as it is an Ubuntu derivative I thougth I may include it in the list too.

My 0,02 cents...
