I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my T42, all the hardware seems to work except for the ATI 7500 graphics. I can't play a DVD full screen without hicups. I have read that this is because by default, the graphics card is only running at 1X in AGP mode. With previous versions, one could edit the xorg.conf file and set the AGP mode to 4X. However, in version 10.10, there is no xorg.conf file anymore.
When I do the glxinfo, it says the OpenGL vendor is Tungsten graphics inc., there is no reference to ATI Radeon 7500 anywhere. So how can I install the proper ATI driver?

10.10 video is running fine on my T42 Type 2378-R4U; DVD's work fine full screen, and ATI Radeon 7500 shows up under lspci. I had to add support for DVDs.

I have 10.10 up and running on my T43.
All of my hardware was functional and working just fine once booted into it.
I did have to make a few changes to get emerald running by default instead of Metacity.
I also had to load the DVD software.
However other than that, it's been flawless for me.

I'd suggest manually creating a 'new' xorg.conf including only the relevant parts, overriding the defaults. At least this used to work some releases ago..
