Problem installation of Kubuntu on a T22

I've being trying to install Kubuntu 10.10 from a liveCD onto a T22 with little success, dual-booting with XP. I'm now on my 3rd disc re-format and installation of XP prior to having another go.

The main problem is that Kubuntu will run and (apparently) install, but when the T22 boots from the hard disc, it will only boot to a grub> prompt. Kubuntu forum members have been very helpful but we haven't cracked this yet, and many of them don't of course understand Thinkpads.

Before I finally give up, have any of you experts any advice - particularly those who have successfully installed Kubuntu on a T series?

One error thrown up by Kubuntu on loading is a module that recognises a Thinkpad EPROM and doesn't load. From research on the net, this seems to be safe to ignore but what do you think? Also, even when running from the live CD, Kubuntu doesn't close the T22 down when shutting down. Is this normal?

Machine spec (may not be relevant in signature) = 13" T22, 900 Pentium, 512 Mb RAM, 160 Gb Hitachi hard disc, 20 Gb NTFS partition for Windows programs, 65 Gb NTFS partition for Windows data, remainder for Kubuntu.

Thanks in advance

You could try installing it inside windows. Load the image with something like daemontools and run the installer called wubi. Hope it works for you that way.

I've now installed XP, Kubuntu and Ubuntu on the T22 but not without problems. Got around mostly by putting the hard disc in my 600E, wiped the hard disc yet again and installed XP then ubuntu then Kubuntu. Then re-installed the hard disc in the T22 and all worked with a grub menu.

However, I haven't spent much more time on this as I've just bought a pre-owned T60p on which I'm installing my software - very impressed so far. I'll get back to the T22 when time allows!
