Hi there,
I have had my z60t for about a year, corp refurb, and i've noticed a major problem with newer distros - to the point I have had to actually give up on Ubuntu and move to Debian.
No matter what kernel options I supply at GRUB, Ubuntu beyond jaunty/lucid will freeze unresponsive even to REISUB, sometimes even before the login prompt. There is never anything in the logs to help track down the problem. ACPI=off stops X from loading.
To use Debian Squeeze without lockups as above, i have to supply ACPI=OFF, which obviously, stops the battery from being monitored.
My local LUG is mystified as to how to solve this problem.
Is there anyone on this forum has seen this problem and found a workaround? I really miss the battery monitor.

Re: Newer Kernels, ACPI and z60t [solved]
Some tinkering produced a solution.
The issue wasnt with ACPI, but with Kernel Mode Set. With this disabled in /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf, all is functioning as it should be.
