Hello,
my specs: T43p, Samsung HM160HC HDD, Ubuntu GNU/Linux. I've applied hdpasd daemon and GNOME notification icon successfully on my ThinkPad but I've found after ~6 months of using that the HDD unloaded heads about 20.000 times! This is strange value I think because HDDs have limited number of that unload cycles of heads - I think it's about 100.000 for common HDDs. Now I've bought new disk (WD3200BEVE) and I want to prevent this high number of head unloads. What sensitivity I've to set in hdapsd configuration file to park heads normally only when the laptop experiences a movement?
Thanks,
Lukas

Re: hdapsd: What sensitivity to set?
There's really no right answer. The trick is to set the sensitivity low enough that the minor movements that you cause during normal usage don't trigger a park, but major bumps or drops do. Unfortunately, that's something that you're going to have to experiment with on your own to figure out.
I could tell you what I've used for my T410, but since that machine just sits on a shelf undisturbed all day, I doubt that'll be of much help!
