Upgrading CPU on T40

#1 Post by redsi » Wed May 24, 2006 8:07 am

I would like to upgrade my 1.3G Banias CPU, which one should I look for? I know 533MHz FSB is not doing any good on my T40 (2373-19U).

Can someone please let me know which CPU I can upgrade? i am looking for some bargain at ebay. Thanks.

Anything that has 400MHz FSB will work - which means any of the Dothans will be an ideal upgrade. Check out http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=24131 for a perfect example. If I had $145 to spare, I'd buy one

No, you cannot upgrade. the CPU is solded to the motherboard. Unless you have professional solding machine, you cannot change CPU. You may change motherboard though.

I am planning to buy a X41 motherboard from China. If you want to join to buy one, we can share some shipping cost.

The price is about $240 plus shipping.

bigtiger is incorrect. The T-series has removeable CPU's. Many have upgraded to 2.1GHz Dothan Pentium M cpus. Do a search.

The T40 cpu CAN BE UPGRADED.... It is not soldered on. Check out the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Sorry, I mistook it as the X-series forum.

Yes, T40 is upgradable. I was viewing X40 and T40 forum simultaneiously. And had mistook it as X40. I am in the market for a X40 board. Somehow that consused me. :D

I've got some 1.8 Dothans FS in the Marketplace forum. If you are interested, take a look at the sale.

First i upgrade my T40 from banias 1.5 to dothan 1.8 and then to dothan 2.10 the difference in performance between the 1.8 and 2.10 is not that big and i will cost you less.

But if money is no problem then go to the pentium 765 2.10ghz.

And while you are there upgrade also the ram to 2gb or maybe 2gb.

That will make a BIGGER difference.
