Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone else has come across this or can offer some help.
I have a desktop PC running WinXP SP2 that has taken to restarting itself. It seems to happen mostly when I close a program. e.g. shutdown IE computer restarts and says it has recovered from a serious error, blah, blah, blah. It can also happen when I shutdown the machine, instead of shutting down, it restarts.
Any ideas on the likely problem. It's definitely not the hard drive and I've reseated (not replaced) the RAM. I've also done a complete reinstall from scratch. I'm thinking RAM or mainboard.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob.

A failing power supply often generates this kind of restarting. Power supplies are not expensive, or weren't the last time I had to replace one. You just need to make sure you get the right size (wattage), form-factor, and decide whether or not you also want to buy a case. Some only come installed in a case, make sure you know in advance - I once bought one with a new case I didn't need by accident.
