Undocking and freeze

#1 Post by tekjock » Fri Jan 15, 2010 3:43 pm

One of my users laptop freezes up when she un-docks. She has tried hitting the #1 button then 2 to pop it out. She has tried Start>un-dock option.

The laptop has XP, and all the latesr windows updates have been installed and all of the Lenovo updates have ben done as well.

Just a guess: bios is the latest as well? There were some fixed issues regarding docking stations on R400 and R500.

I updated the BIOS and that did nothing. I was getting this error

Code: Select all

you cannot eject your computer because the service 'LPT1', which controls one of the devices in the docking station, does not support plug and play and cannot be stopped. Contact the manufacturer of the driver for an update.
I did some Googling and I disabled LPT1, then I got a similar error

Code: Select all

you cannot eject your computer because the service 'SSIPDDP', , which controls one of the devices in the docking station, does not support plug and play and cannot be stopped. Contact the manufacturer of the driver for an update.
So I did so Googling on this one and SSIPDDP has to do with a program called PADS, it is a circuit board design tool that requires a USB dongle to be used. Prior to disabling SSIPDDP I removed the USB dongle and I get the same issues when un-docking.

So after disabling LPT1 & SSIPDDP I can now hit the undock button, we get the message that it is safe to undock then we hit the eject button and it comes out safely.

So the next issue is, and this was a intermittent issue prior to these changes. when we go to dock the laptop, the laptop freezes and we have to power it off (hold the power button on the laptop not the dock) to restart it.

any thoughts on this.

thanks
