IBM ThinkPad 755CD
Does anyone know where I can find the manual download? "use it under Adobe Reader" I can't find it on the lenovo site.
Heres a nice video to watch of the ThinkPad 755CD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIJWfXfGI4o
I can't believe this laptop costed $7,599 brand new in 1994. I'm planning to install a 6GB in it with an install of Windows 98. Just going to use it for internet searching.
I think also this ThinkPad was really made in USA.
It says on the bottom: Manufactured by International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, New York Assembled in US of US and non-US components.
All my ThinkPads 560X - UP say made in Mexico or now in Lenovo China. Or in my i1200 case Made in Taiwan witch being for Acer.

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
Well I got a brand new OEM IBM AC Adapter for my 755CD. During Boot I get this Error code 00201.
It also brings me to the set time and date everytime I power it on, So the CMOS battery is dead, not a surprise for it being a 94.

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
When I go to insert the CD "using Windows XP Home Edition CD for mess around" It don't read the CD. It spins and the light lights up on the CD Drive but later brings me to the blinking floppy screen that has on the bottom F1|F2|F3|F4 and so on. I go into Easy Setup and theres no option to set to read CD-ROM Drive first. just Floppy/HDD/PCMCIA. No CD icon at all. During Test page. everything tests out OK incuding the CD Drive. I plan to install Windows 98 on my 755CD. But first I have to install Windows 95 via CD. How do you get the CD to auto run like Windows 2000 and later? I have no floppy drive, only my 560X external Floppy and I don't see a port for it unless its hidden somewhere, or I would use my Windows 95 13 install floppy set.

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
Hi all, I get this error on Easy Setup under memory on my ThinkPad 755CD: DEV 002 | ERR 21 | FRU 0020
I even get a Error under my Display icon, but my display looks fine to me. : DEV 051 | ERR 10 | FRU 041
Also if the memory is damaged. can it be fixed? I lifted the keyboard and removed the CD Drive and there are 2 sticks in it. Both look like new. And are probably "VERY RARE To Find".

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
The 755CD has a removable proprietary memory card inside the metal case, I think it is 4MB. Under the CDROM there is a slot for a PCMCIA looking RAM card, with an optional board you can buy to convert it to use SODIMM.
My second 755CD gives me some errors as well, my issue is the long green 3 cell backup battery has leaked all over the internal boards around its plug so look and see if there is any sign of that on yours.
Error codes I get are:
Memory DEV 002 ERR 83, FRU 2010
Parallel DEV 009, 01, 0010
Serial 011,10,0010
I tried cleaning my unit up but still have errors, the LCD is cracked anyway and I got it mostly for the perfect case since my original unit had a nasty cracked case that needed glued and looked ugly (was going to do a swap). But like other things I got sidetracked seeing if I could get my 2nd unit working.

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
I think im safe, I removed the 3 cell green cover CMOS battery and there was a very small hair of green on the plug. Wiped the infared cable off incase aswell. I'll keep the battery pack for a ref to get a new one. Good thing I took it out today or it would of done alot more damge as the years went by.
Also if you watched that video I posted it showed that PCMCIA looking memory card plug in of what you got. In mine It has a small board pluged into that port that gives me 2 RAM slots. I can post as image on my site if you want to see what I got.

Yea, I seen those before. No idea what kind of SODIMM it uses, and what the maximum RAM you can install is. My 755CD has a 16 or 32MB RAM card which is good enough for DOS/Windows 3.1 which I run on it.

Does anyone know if this is the right CMOS battery? This battery goes right abov the main battery where that black plastic cover is. It has 3 metal pins for plug in. This is what I found on PCHUB

Re: IBM ThinkPad 755CD
I ordered a new CMOS battery for my 755CD, Does anyone know where I can find the left "PCMCIA card slot side" LCD latch for the 755CD? It was missing when I first bought it and need some kind of door cover on the right side where you can see the CD Drive and such.
