[FS] Loaded and modified T60p **QXGA + SSD**
Hi all!
I decided to let go of my 15" T60p with QXGA display and thanks to a member of this forum who just contacted me on ebay and told me about this section, I'm posting the link here as well.
I hope posting the link is OK because I don't have a "set" price for it. I listed it on eBay and there's only 1 day left...

Thanks everyone for always being such a great and supportive community! I have been a lurker most of the time but now my "real life" business is just demanding too much time now, so I have to let this "hobby" laptop go with a heavy heart...

Nice machine!
It could have been nicer even, if you had turned it into a "Frankenpad" by putting in the motherboard of a 14.1" T61!
See e.g. here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=105114
Good luck with the sale.
For those people who might want to follow in your footsteps, could you please let us know the exact data you flashed into the QXGA screen's EDID chip? Thanks much.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I agree, it's missing the most obvious upgrade (T61 board) to get you past the 3gb limit and the cpu could be upgraded from 2.33ghz merom to 2.8ghz penryn, and harddrive from SATA1 to SATA2.
I recall when you sold the last one, it sold well over $1000 if I recall... good luck with this sale.

Re: [FS] Loaded and modified T60p **QXGA + SSD**
I tried for the longest time to do the mainboard mod but at the time just couldn't find "the" one board I wanted (penryn support etc), so I just left it after doing some real world comparisons between another "real" T61p (widescreen model) and mine. The differences were so small and yes, even though this board only supports 3Gigs, the SSD upgrade made THE difference and basically reduced the gap between the T61p (also with ssd) and this one by so much, that I felt it wasn't worth the extra money and effort, losing the modem, cutting or sawing away parts of the frame etc.
With the base machine, cpu, ram, SSD upgrade I was in well over 2k already and this was really a little hobby for a while, almost like some people do with vintage cars... I wanted it as original and pristine as possible, just with the QXGA and all mainboard specs (cpu, ram, ssd, wifi) maxed out. I built two of them to almost exactly the same spec. I used one (the first one) for daily work for a while and had the second one (this one on eBay) more or less as a secondary backup machine in the living room for occasional surfing etc. that's why the battery has so few cycles and the keyboard is pretty much new.
I thought long and hard about listing it on eBay... and in some way I get sentimental when I think about giving it away. But I feel that I just don't have the appropriate time for this "hobby" any more and it would just here sitting and collecting dust. I hope someone will really appreciate it and have a good use for it.
I actually hand-crafted the EDID contents and built a little programmer to flash the eeprom directly. I found the absolute optimum settings for the ATI card with the highest possible refresh rate and v/h sync values. I later found other EDIDs posted online but they were different and when I built the other T60p I tried them but the results were not as good. I think it was 2hz slower refresh or something if I recall right...
I'll check and see if I can still find the file(s) and will be happy to share, if that can be of help to the community
Thanks for the good wishes... the auction is almost up, it's looking like it's gonna be a nail biter ! Bids are still way low

Sold @ $770
I was very tempted to throw a bid on it, but I already have an equally nice system with a NOS T61p penryn board, X9000 cpu and 8gb of ram. I'd love to have a Qxga screen though, but maybe with your help I can get one some day.
Sorry this one didn't fetch the kind of money your last one did, but someone definitely got a great system here, and a great deal, especially with all the extra parts.
ps. I wonder if it was one of our members?

That is quite an interesting Thinkpad. I would have put a bid in had I seen it earlier
