Lenovo G570 with damaged screen, can't use BIOS

#1 Post by uberT » Fri Nov 02, 2012 10:06 am

G570 4334-4QU

I'm not sure if anyone has a solution, but our 1 yr old G570 hasn't endured well in the hands of our son. It's been dropped multiple times and the plastic hinges have essentially failed. So, the laptop screen is dead, but I can still run the machine as a desktop replacement when plugged into an external monitor. I'm going to sell the machine but would like to re-format the hard drive. Problem is, when I use One-Key recovery or the recovery discs, the machine does not load the driver for the external display and I'm pretty much in the dark, pun intended.

The laptop still runs pretty much as expected, wireless still works, keyboard still functions as normal...I just can't figure out a way to make the external display the default display cuz I don't know my way around the BIOS on this machine and can't perform the keystrokes "blind". Any thoughts apart from selling the machine without the hard drive?

(Anyone have a G570 that they could read me the required keystrokes so that I could attempt to mimic??)

Thanks.

ThinkPads can usually switch displays with Fn F7. The same may work with your G570. Unfortunately I don't have one to offer the keystroke sequences.

Thanks, Brad. That switching on the G570 takes place with Fn+F3. It seems to work most of the time on this machine but still doesn't help 'til the machine is fully booted.

Now I just have to figure out what "D-USB" is... looks like my only option.

I'm guessing it's a misspelling of "D-Sub".

I have no idea what that is. I'll have to dig a bit.

Thanks again, Twistero.

A D-subminiature or D-sub connector is what's used for VGA, serial port, parallel port, etc etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-subminiature
