Screen upgrade for T430u
Screen upgrade for T430u
What's the chances the 1366x768 display on the t430u can be upgraded with 1600x900 displays from the t430, t430s, or X1 Carbon? There's no upgrade option through Lenovo, so I'm wondering if I could do it myself. Any thoughts on this?
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
I'm curious if you want a notebook with a HD+ LCD, why not just buy one? It would seem to save you a lot of trouble. There's a thread over on NBR about putting a X1 Carbon screen in a T430, but I don't think anyone has tried it yet.zkello wrote:Any thoughts on this?

Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
I want a 14 inch Thinkpad that's really thin. That really only leaves the X1 Carbon, the T430s, and the T430u. I can't afford the X1 carbon though, and the T430s is just a bit too thick for me. (Thickness is more important to me than resolution)
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Welcome to the forum - just curious, and I mean no disrespect - but thickness is more important to you than screen resolution? I'm just curious as to why? Just personal preference?

Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Thanks. I carry my books and laptop to and from classes every day. It just makes it easier if I can fit everything in my backpack. And I really don't mind the 1366x768 resolution, I just would prefer 1600x900.
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Fair enough, that makes sense. If you plan to carry your thinkpad in a backpack, I'd recommend getting one of these screen protector cloths (http://www.shaggymac.com/). I've had very good luck with them - it'll keep you from getting pressure marks on the screen and rub marks from the keys or the trackpoint.

Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Okay thanks! I was just wondering how I was going to keep this thing from getting beat up in my bag.
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
LCD in the ThinkPad Carbon is attached to the Carbon's Lid using sticky tape. I had a look at the information for the T430u and T430s i have, the 1600x900 LCD on the T430s may fit in the T430u Lid, but there is a 0.2 mm difference in thickness.
Current ThinkPad: T430u, T430s, X1 Carbon, X1, X230t, X220t, X230, X220, X201t, W520, W701ds, T500, T420 and many more
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Do you think you could try and see if the T430 screen works (Since you have both)? I don't have the money to buy a LCD that might not actually work. Would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
I will have a look at it later when my second T430u comes in.

Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
If I don't care about thickness but I care about screen resolution, weight and price, would removing the optical drive of T430s do the trick?

this should answer some of your question regarding laptop weight.

AUO will release a 14" 1920x1080 screen in Q1 2013: http://www.auo.com/?sn=149&lang=en-US&c=34&n=297
It is a really slim LCD, maybe it could be used in T430u.

Re: Screen upgrade for T430u
Anyone who succeeded with the screen upgrade of the t430u yet? Or like a mod upgrade to this system? I'm just hoping to pop an ips display to my unit but it seems that no one has ever tried it yet
