The final mod on my "ultimate" T43p: AFFS LED LCD *huge* PIC

They say that the picture is worth a thousand words...so, here's your first "grand":

I'm feeling charitable today, so here's another one:

Three times is the charm:

Now, LED AFFS vs. conventional (very well-preserved) UXGA IPS, with both screens set at full brightness with AC adapters plugged in:

The bottom line is: if you like your FlexViews light & bright, it doesn't get better than this, not in 4:3 format anyway.

Are there any caveats to this upgrade?

Yes. Do not try this at home. Seriously. You stand an excellent chance of blowing a fuse or two in the process.

RealBlackStuff will be offering this LED AFFS upgrade on 15" T6x models soon enough, but not on T4x because there's simply way too much "fiddling" (as he would like to say) involved. So, what you're seeing here is a "one-off" testbed.

Then again, if the price is not a factor to be considered...maybe you could talk him into building you one of these...

I had to re-load my monitor profiles, and play with Catalyst Control Center panel a bit after this screen swap in order not to have my eyesight damaged any further. Not kidding. For a non-outdoor LCD, this screen is *extremely* bright. Take it from someone whose work laptop has a (4:3 no less) LCD rated at 1000 nits...so yes, I know "very bright" when I see it... :D

For your ultimate viewing pleasure, the slideshow can be accessed here:

While I still enjoy my A31p's conventional IPS FlexView LCD tremendously, the idea of having a similar screen that will never go dim was just too tempting...and that's how my T43p ended up being the guinea pig for the umpteenth time...

Now, if I could only find a similar LCD to throw into my wife's Z61m... :jhem:

Awesome.

How much would a 4:3 AFFS 15" AFFS with T61 or T61p motherboard cost?

What is the resolution? Also UXGA?

Today I replaced with SXGA+ panel on my 14" T60p. Now with all the low-screen notebooks which look like those organizers from 1980's my Thinkpads look really cool

Thank you. Coming from someone who knows his screens, it's highly appreciated.

I'm certain that you found the keyboard layout familiar as well... :D

Feel free to PM me for a quote. Seriously.

Yes, sir.

That's exactly why some of us are thriving to keep the 4:3 format alive...stay tuned, additions to this thread will follow in a few days... :D

Didn't notice the SLO/CRO/SRB layout at first. Actually my X61t has US and T60p has UK layout - I don't care what it says on the keys.

I had in mind this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio_digital_diary

Present day notebooks remind of that.

What is the source of AFFS panel?

I'm a little confused...so an IPS panel was taken and the original backlight was removed and replaced with an LED one?

No.

This is an ex-factory LED AFFS FlexView panel. Custom wiring by RealBlackStuff in order to get it to work in a machine that originally wasn't meant to utilize such a screen.

The same mod is available for the 15" T6x systems.

So I decided to play a bit with the colour profiles on this T43pFL...just a bit, to get it warmer...

T43p on the left with A31p to the right:

Now, how does this LED panel compare to a brand new (NOS) LG Philips SXGA+ IPS FlexView that I just installed on my T43F?

Frankie to the left, The Beast to the right, both running W7 with screens on full brightness and AC adapters plugged in...

Do bear in mind that the resolutions are different...

Oh this really looks good, once my sound system is 'done' I probably won't be able to stop my self from getting a SATA mod and a screen like that, it's just too good to pass up, T4x's just keep getting better and better.

Just a small upgrade on the current configuration since it's been a while... :D

T43p SFL (originally 2668-BY8)

Based on 2668-Q6U:

P M 780(2.26GHz)
2GB RAM
80GB 7200rpm HD................now 32 GB Intel X-25E SATA SLC SSD
15in 1600x1200 LCD..............yes, but with a LED-lit Hydis IPS panel
128MB ATI FireGL V3200
CDRW/DVD...........................now DVD RW or UltraBay battery
Wireless upgradeable..............now Atheros a/b/g/n
Modem..................................now BlueTooth/Modem
1Gb Ethernet
UltraNav................................disabled
Secure chip............................disabled
Fingerprint reader...................removed
9c Li-Ion batt
WinXP Pro..............................now Win 7 Pro 32
Slovenian layout keyboard (NMB)

Still an absolute joy to use...
