#1 Post by A31 » Tue Apr 30, 2013 1:34 pm

Anybody here interested in photography? I've been interested for a few years and currently I shoot with a Nikon D3200 D-SLR, with two lenses (the 18-55 VR DX and the 55-200 VR DX, both from Nikon).

If you're interested in seeing my photography, you can take a look at my Flickr photostream (which I update frequently) http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonbrown2013/ maybe if you have a Flickr account you could share your photostream?

Those are some pretty impressive photos you have there!

I've always fancied myself as a photographer, but my shots don't even come close to yours...

I'm not too familiar with Nikon cameras as I'm a Canon guy, but from a quick Google search it seems like you have a nice camera there (I shoot with a 400D myself).

I might have to create a Flickr account but I don't know whether I'd want to be sharing my shots until I've had a little more practice...

Edit: oh it looks like I already have one... http://www.flickr.com/photos/76703605@N07/ (Although Flickr seems to be having issues atm)

Haha cheers. :D

Only just started with a D-SLR this year, was using a bridge camera (Fuji S4000) throughout 2012 which was decent but the Nikon D3200 I have now is much better. I love my D3200. The 24 megapixels come in handy for when you want to crop or enlarge your images. Got some of my photos framed around the house and they look great thanks to the megapixels. :)

Well you've learnt quickly! I've had mine for a few years now, but don't seem to get much time to play around with it.

Macro shots of insects and plants are what I enjoy most, either that or they're just easier!

I love macro shots and flowers too - probably because they come out really well. I try to vary what I take photos of though. :)

Thanks!

Got my new lens in the post today: Nikkor 55-300 VR DX. Amazing lens! Now my camera looks kind of huge though, haha. :P

That lens dwarfs my camera body! :P

I've already taken some shots with it today :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonbrown ... 401330395/

Going to London tomorrow, so I hope to get some good shots there. :)

I've been an amateur photographer on and off for decades, but recently sold all of my DSLR cameras and lenses (Sony full frame) to go mirorless (Sony NEX7). Mirrorless gives all of the image quality in a much smaller and lighter package, though good lenses are few and very expensive.

I've come to the less-is-more stage, and at this point don't bother at all with zoom lenses or electronic flash. I have also gone back to film.

I always shoot in RAW and then process the RAW files in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. In Lightroom you can tweak everything and the result can be some gorgeous looking photographs at the end of it. Lightroom is essential software for the digital photographer and it's only £100 or so to purchase. It's very easy and intuitive to use too. I just upgraded from 4 to 5 and I'm loving 5. I honestly thought Adobe couldn't improve on 4 but they've done it again - great software. ;)

If you don't want to purchase Lightroom, then you can use the Nikon ViewNX2 software which the D3200 comes with. It does the same sort of thing (but I've never used it).

If you don't already edit, don't be afraid to start editing. Photography doesn't end once the shutter button has been pressed. It ends once you've processed/tweaked the RAW files in Lightroom or whatever you're using and exported your final photo to a JPEG.

The RAW files the D3200 produces are about 20MB a piece. I've got a 16GB and a 32GB card and I've never filled either with RAWs, so 16GB is enough. SD cards are cheap these days anyway.

Should also mention in my first post that I said I had the 55-200 VR DX. I actually have the 55-300 VR DX with ED glass which is a better lens. :)

Not bad!

For my 16th birthday just over 2 weeks ago now, I was fortunate enough to receive entrance to a wildlife photography workshop at the local zoo with a professional photographer. :D I went on Sunday 13th and had a great time and with the day being a bit overcast, the zoo was practically empty, so I could get close to the animals. The other good news was there was no glare from the sun, so photographing through the glass wasn't a problem and the light resulted in some nice colours.

If you're interested, you can see 24 of the best shots I got here http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonbrown ... 545725504/

I've posted some screenshots of my desktops in the Post Your Desktop thread. I'm using the close up of the snow leopard and one of the shots of the leopard as my desktop backgrounds and Windows 8 lock screens. :)

Thanks. Whilst I am really pleased that you enjoy looking at my work, I would ask you to refrain from downloading them without my consent. I think I have my Flickr account set up so I only I can download the JPEGs anyway.

No worries.

I thought a few of them might make for good desktop wallpapers. I had no intent of downloading without permission.

Keep up the good work though, you take some nice pictures.
