T400 - which screen brand to get?
Hello,
I have just purchased used T400 in very good condition, it's flawless, well with one exception, HUGE smudge on the screen.
Since Lenovo equips these laptops with two screens - LG and Samsung, I was wondering if someone could advice me which one to get. I remember reading on Lenovo forums that it's 'unfortunate' these laptops (T400, T500) comes with those screens in 50/50 ratio, however he didn't state which one is better.
So could someone give me a hint?
Thanks!

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
There are different versions with either CCFL or LED backlight (LED in bright or extra-bright), as well as either WXGA or WXGA+ resolution.
They need different LCD cables and either an inverter or a LED-board.
My personal preference would always be LG-Philips over Samsung.

It's WXGA LED. There's different pin count for WXGA vs WXGA+?
Otherwise this screen flickers a lot, is that normal?

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
Thanks for your help.
TypeID didn't help much as well, 2768-11G - I found only WXGA+ screens under that type.
I had X220 with quite strange screen as well, greenish tint. Later I found that most laptop screen are that sickly green, is it tied to specific screen manufacturer?

Type in your serial Number (S/N) without the -sign, and the type (2768) here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page
Then check the screen P/N or FRU on the list it shows you, only that will tell you if you have CCFL or LED.

Actually I can tell myself just by looking at it - it's 100% LED (so I assume 30-pin connector) - the PWM flicker doesn't occur on CCFL screens, ever.
Nevertheless I looked into it and the specifications from Lenovo doesn't match the screen resolution on this one (WXGA+ vs. WXGA) so it must have been replaced by previous user

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
The Lenovo specs said it came with WXGA+ (1440x900), but not if that was CCFL or LED.
The P/N or FRU from the parts list that you got can tell you exactly.
Some previous must have broken the LCD and replaced it with the cheaper WXGA (1280x800).
Open the lid, and see what's inside.
The flickering would be caused by a loose/bad LED-board.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
I'd leave that "opening" part till there's no other option, as it would break seller's warranty. Though right now, don't have much choices.

If the seller lied to you about the screen resolution, or if you don't like what you got, return it and get your money back.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
Actually it'd be great if that's possible, but I'm afraid it's not.
The seller installed Refurbished Windows 7 Pro on the machine so it has Win7 sticker on the bottom, so according to our laws, once it has been adjusted to customer's request, it cannot be returned in standard 14-day period.

So if the seller misrepresented the product but customized it, you are stuck with it? I don't believe it. Without even knowing the specific laws of your country - it makes no sense, and would not hold in any court.Andrew479 wrote:Actually it'd be great if that's possible, but I'm afraid it's not.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
The laptop looks very good otherwise, the seller also agreed on partial refund (about $25).
Anyway will the WXGA+ be compatible with the current WXGA in terms of bezel dimensions?
Thinking of getting this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360732184175
Though there's this difficult question, what to do with the current one, hard to say if someone would buy it? Maybe some person building T400 from scratch and in need of cheap replacement parts. The smudge is not that 'bad':

but still enough to convince me to buy new screen

Actually it was me who requested Win7 to be installed - I needed T400 as a business laptop and Microsoft Refurbished Licensing appealed to me.dr_st wrote:So if the seller misrepresented the product but customized it, you are stuck with it? Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
A partial refund does seem a fair solution.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?
So I did buy LP141WP2 only to find that it's not compatible with the LCD cable I'm now using
Original screen was LP141WX5 and used thick 30 pin cable.
LP141WP2 uses thin 40 pin cable
Could someone points me to specific Part Number for that cable, prefferably WITH Thinklight and no camera?
