Bringing the extra cables, screen, and possibly nylon case for the screen would be too much trouble. The nice thing about the dual screen models was that it didn't require anything extra. Sure, their probably won't be as much screen space, but having the 'wow' factor of being able to quickly pop out the display is a nice engineering marvel.

There is another report by a different user of similar issue (sudden 2100: Detection Error on SSD1) :?

EDIT Lenovo at least confirmed that first customers are actually the QA :?

Wanna be a betatester ? :? Thinkpad P50 does not boot https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P ... rue#M55526

1. Take out the CMOS battery for some minutes (4-5)
2. Put it back
3. Start the device and update the BIOS to version 1.15

We - a reseller from Germany - found out about this problem and fixed a lot of devices - a LOT!! No fun at all, if you know the background.

Obviously, Lenovo is having a problem in engineering getting all of this new technology to work together:
PCI-SSDs, hi-dpi displays, DDR4, etc.

I think that in general they are headed in the right direction, even if this generation is a little buggy.
Maybe it'll all be sorted out for Kaby Lake. I'm hoping that by then they come to their senses and
dump 16:9 screens for workstations.

I'm more inclined to think they released it a bit too early (maybe due to pressure from management or market forces)... or they're really sloppy and their QA isn't as rigorous, missing more than a few bugs. :evil:

Which is the case of Windows 10 as well. Whole PC industry seems to be nervous from decreasing sales that causes they are releasing even more buggy products as "final" one than before :(

There are too many thinkpad models now. The focus should be more on quality, well designed units, than sheer quantity.

Yeah, strange that there's the X1 Yoga, regular Yoga, P40 Yoga, and then the 11e variant.

Sucks that they got rid of the W series all together. Oh well.

P70 keyboard/trackpoint issues https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P ... -p/2261333

Both of these issues make the machine essentially unusable in any professional software, either CAD or software development.

It does seem like Lenovo has lost their mojo of late in their product organization.

Whatever happened to the brilliant team that designed the keyboard on the T400s/T410/T420/W510/W520 ?
They've probably been exiled to the Gobi desert, or whatever the Chinese equivalent of Siberia is.

Pros:
* good fan/gooling review

Cons:
* sRGB coverage 58% !
* bad vertical viewing angles

The screen is worse than what you would find on some cheap consumer laptops today.

They've pulled that trick before I believe; forcing you to get the higher resolution screen if you want something with decent quality. On a premium machine like this even the entry-level components should be better than the average consumer laptop.

It is time to change the default setting then.

jdrou wrote:They've pulled that trick before I believe; forcing you to get the higher resolution screen if you want something with decent quality.
Actually not, the P70 4K panel has low PWM backlight control below 95% brightness setting that means "always". The E560 IPS panel is even better than the P50 one http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Thi ... 741.0.html

I don't think this is on purpose. Lenovo just does not care about the screen quality as usually, it is just component having pixel resolution and size.

Meanwhile another interesting discussion, new Samsung PCI-e/NVMe SSD risk of overheating https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P ... -p/2262307

True.

Anyone buying either a P50 or an E560 might end up getting a totally random screen, not necessarily one from the early reviews.

Just 'resolution' and 'size' AND being IPS.
But apparently IPS here doesn't guarantee much, like sRGB coverage / PWM / response time / and some times view angles.

Actually, Lenovo pretty much states that the FHD IPS screen won´t cover sRGB in the PSREF:

15.6" (396mm) FHD (1920x1080), anti-glare, LED backlight, IPS, 250 nits,
16:9 aspect ratio, 600:1 contrast ratio, 45% gamut, 160° viewing angle

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF ... ations.pdf

There are 3 different FHD screens used for the P50:
- 00HT919 (Samsung)
- 00HT920 (Boe Hydis)
- 00HT921 (LG Display)

The one Notebookcheck tested was the last one (LG).

Actually, for me, 3K is a good thing for 15.6". I like its 211.8 DPI, which is just low enough that I can avoid scaling. Because of this, I am seriously considering getting a Thinkpad, for the first time in 6 years! Tell me, what's the difference between the P50s, T550, and W550s? They all have an 15.6" 2880x1620 option. Also, is the clickpad still as awful as the one on the T540p?

For almost a year, I had a Sony P Series whose 8" 1600x768 screen was 221.9 DPI, and it worked fine without scaling.

P50s, T550, T560 and W550s are all based on the same chassis. T550 and W550s are both Broadwell based, T560 and P50s are the new Skylake replacements for those two models.

Some of the differences:
- T550/W550s were available with FHD TN, 3K IPS and 3K IPS Touch displays. T560/P50s are available with FHD IPS, FHD IPS Touch and 3K IPS (same 3K displays as in T550/W550s)
- T550/W550s were equipped with VGA/mDP, T560/P50s switch to HDMI/mDP
- GPUs: T550 was available with the GeForce 940M, W550s with the Quadro K620M. T560 will be available with the GeForce 940MX, P50s is available with the Quadro M500M. All W550s/P50s models are equipped with dGPUs
- Some P50s/T560 models will be available with SATA Express PCIe x2 SSDs (T550/W550s = SATA III only)

These are most of the major changes, T560/P50s are small upgrades of T550/W550s.

The ClickPad is definitely different from T540p. The general consensus is that it is much better.
