T43 dvd writer question (optical drive).
guys i have noticed that my optical drive (dvd writer) is been having a problem, sometimes when i want to eject a disc the tray doesnt open, i can wait for ever for it to open, i push the eject botton many times, i even try to eject from windows (optical drive, second botton mouse click, then eject click)... when this happens i have no choise but to do it manually by inserting a toothpick into a litle hole beside the blue eject botton.
maybe this is normal and i see it as an issue, or maybe its a typical fixable problem (liltle) or (i hope not) maybe a real big defective problem for my optical drive.
could you guys please post your opinions or whatever here.
thanks so much!
ps:this is happened so many times that got me concerned (3 out of 10 times)
btw if possible could you also explain me what is know about the dvd region for the optical drive please (optical drive, properties, hardware, matshita dvd-ram UJ-822S, properties, dvd region)... im scared to mess up something since its says you can only change the region up to 5 times.

So you're saying the drive doesn't pop out a little bit when you push the eject button or eject through Windows? I've never had a T (getting mine soon I hope, but I have used them, just dont remember this) but if it's like any other tray laptop drive it should pop out half an inch or so when you push the button or eject from windows. If it isn't, maybe the release mechanism doesn't function properly and the drive needs to be replaced.

X31, T43p (on sale soon I think
), T400
perhaps you have DLA activated and it wants to access the drive. I would uninstall the crappy DLA and Record Now software zu check if the problem is software related. Does this problem occure also after restart during the Bios screen or during the XP boot screen? If not, it is a software problem.
For the Region question: as far as I know there is no way to make the DVD Multiburner regionfree, there is no Bios hack and no software like DVDIdle works with the Matshita drives. It is no problem to make the Combo CDRW drives region free, though.

i dont want to hack anything, i just want to know if its ok i set it to region 1, would i mess something up doing that, too risky to be played with... so you think its the DLA software, i got rid off record now but not dla because the fact that i could reuse a cdr already burned was cool, i dont recall any time having the ejecting problem on boot up, but defetnally its not like it opens soso or fails to push its tray out automaticly IT just wont open, it wont even make the little noises it does when preparing to eject.s0larian wrote:perhaps you have DLA activated and it wants to access the drive. im pretty concerned about this problem, sometimes it would piss me off (when in a hurry)... i might demand ibm for a replacement (how do i do that by the way?)
thanks alot guys.

I have seen from time to time my drive not eject when I push the button. I think it is that I don't actually push the button at the right angle, usually when I concentrate about pushing the eject button it works just fine.
I am ok with this behavior as it keeps the drive from opening when I just brush the button.
You can change the region code for the drive 4 times, the 5th time it is set for good at that region.

could you guys verify that i cannot reset from region 1 to manufacturer's default (which is 0) my optical drive by any way?
i really want to do this for my panasonic matshita uj-822s of a t43... it says it only has 4 times left to change the region.
thank you all so much!!!
ps:so if it is possible to hack/patch/firmware the region setting then please let me know how or where to go looking.
