fan control for the R32

#1 Post by Mac Workin » Wed Nov 30, 2016 1:29 pm

is there a program that can perform such actions? i have tried IBM_ECW, TPFanControl and Notebook Hardware Control, but all they do is report odd temperatures like 17-19C and give me no options to control the fan (i'm pretty sure they were reading some other parts of the embedded controller).

this is rather annoying, as i have shoved in a Mobile Intel Pentium 4 2.3GHz (SL789) for more speed, but in turn generates loads of heat! which is why i desperately require a program that can control the fan, temperature monitoring is irrelevant as i have managed to read from 2 thermal zones.

and if you were wondering how i've gotten that processor to work, i had to delid the heat spreader to prevent the heatsink from colliding with it. note that it's operating on a 400MHz bus, explains why, doesn't it?

Unfortunately you are landing on no man's land. Your CPU has a much higher TDP (somewhere in 50-60W) compared to 35W. It is Mobile Pentium 4, not Mobile Pentium 4 - M. The stock CPU does not have the heat spreader. Use your original CPU because higher than supported TDP also means more risk to burn your motherboard
FYI, non Pentium 4 - M P4 DOES NOT have a temp reading, it is only able to throttle or freeze your computer if it gets too hot

non Mobile Pentium 4 - Ms have no temperature reading, as in it has no core temperature sensor? doesn't every Northwood-based Pentium 4 come with no built-in core temperature sensor, and relies only on the temperature sensors that are placed on the motherboard?

this is a picture of the R32 with the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 2.3GHz's temperatures: http://oi65.tinypic.com/15qcb9u.jpg <= more than 50KB and i don't want to get beat down just because of download restrictions

and may i ask, where did you find such information of the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 2.3GHz's TDP? there is not even a single detail on the internet that shows its power consumption figures, since it was a rebranded Mobile Intel Pentium 4 - M http://ark.intel.com/products/27360/ <speculation> which explains why it is the only odd one out, every Mobile Pentium 4 has a 533MHz FSB, this one has a 400MHz FSB... still no fan control program though.

Whenever you get a head spreader, it means the CPU has the desktop TDP. P4 - M and other low power mobile processors do NOT have heat spreaders at all
