Long time after: USB stick problems on W98

#1 Post by wujstefan » Sun Mar 05, 2017 2:29 pm

Hello,

I just can't make any of my usb sticks work with R30 I own... I've got one older stick (Kingston Data Traveller 2 512Mb), but no universal drivers seem to work with it, or actually with any of my sticks. Tried a gazilion of different options.

Win98 SE does not come with universal mass storage drivers. These can be backported from WinME. The process needs to be administered carefully, as it is possible to mess up the installation.

Have you tried http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php ?
I haven't used Win98 in a long time (maybe 10 years?) so I haven't tried more recent USB devices on it.

That's what I use on my 380XD with 98SE. I have a 1GB stick I use just for that computer. I installed the software, restarted, plugged in the stick and selected the driver. Slow as molasses (because that computer is USB 1.0, after all) but it's easier than burning CDs or hunting down my parallel ZIP drive in a closet someplace.

And this is exactly what I used. However, it came out it works! 512Mb USB so old it's made of stone and wood did not work, but a brand-new 16Gig works like a charm oO.
