water spill touchpad killed t42

#1 Post by irus » Wed Mar 29, 2017 8:33 pm

the laptop had water seep in a bit through the two buttons of the touchpad which made me replace the touchpad assembly since it was dead. i used the old palmrest and old finger print reader ribbon though (since it was pasted than screwed to the palmrest) the new touchpad worked for a while but has died again. Im not sure what happened. Any ideas what to do now?

It is easy really. Just enter the bios and disable Touchpad.

Then just use the Trackpoint :)

yeah im using that now getting used to it. its just weird sometimes when i enable touchpad it works sometimes it doesnt. when touchpad is enabled in bios and it happens not to workin windows it takes down the trackpoint too and then i need to disable it in bios to get trackpoint working again.

i wonder why its behaving this way even though i replaced the touchpad assembly? something on mobo got shorted?

I had the issue of both trackpoint and Touchpad stops working from time to time in a T43 I've spilled water on a long time ago. Then for some reason, after me swapping the actual pad with another palm rest assembly coming from a dead T41p, that problem never happens again for both of them! So I guess you can try to reseat the pad from the palm rest assembly?

Cause and Effect diagnosis and I have witnessed laptops being discarded when people get it wrong.

Nice to hear it is sorted.
