I dunno, but a $100 dollar Chinese tablet and expecting future support. An optimistic buyer, imo.

The same with a good trackpoint and I could be interested as a stop gap solution waiting for something to happen on the lenovo side.

Tämä. If there's no trackpoint, that's not a real stop gap.

Yeah, we buy ThinkPad because of the excellent TrackPoint...
We have used this on while on buses, taxis, boats, etc. along with our mobile broadband, and the precise TrackPoint had served us well!

And ThinkPad are GREAT machines ;)

My guess would be Panasonic. Panasonic has its own display-department.

1# PC position is contested now, IDC says HP is the biggest PC manufacturer, Gartner says Lenovo.

If all 12" models had 16:10 displays, ThinkPads would have them as well.

Microsoft have finally announced a 3:2 Win 10 laptop. Looks great except for the keyboard. Perhaps this will encourage others to produce a 3:2 laptop.

Ya'll can have your 3:2, I want 15.4" WQXGA. If Apple can do it so can Lenovo.

Looks really nice. I like the styling but I wonder how upgradeable/repairable it is. This was the main reason I fell in love with ThinkPads many years ago. With a little luck, it's not going to have soldered RAM etc. Quite expensive for what you get too.

Its not at all upgradeable or repairable. RAM and SSD are soldered to the Motherboard and ist chassis is most likely glued together, just like with the other Surface devices.

Do you have any links to this info? I couldn't find any reviews that covered anything further than the marketing material in any detail.

It seems odd too that they offer the wider choice of colors only on the cheaper model. I quite like the Cobalt Blue.

They said this when they announced the device. Soldered SSD was even touted as a feature, because apparently it saves energy.

Watch this: https://youtu.be/pnFVKycmbQs?t=10m23s

"Up to one TB, if you choose, PCIe SSD, and that is integrated directly onto the motherboard..."

Wow, I hope that isn't the case. An integrated SSD in such an expensive device would be a tragedy!

It may not be exactly "integrated" on the even more expensive* SP4 but it's certainly not designed to be user-upgradable. Maybe in a year or two I'll take the risk of trying to open mine up to upgrade when it won't be as much of a loss if I break it.

EDIT: * more expensive when it was released at least.

Yeah, I've seen the tear-down images. And some people that managed to modify Surface Pro 3 to give permanent external access to the drive without opening it completely.

no reaction yet?

So what seems confirm is T470 base with 7row keyboard.
Seems in line with what some people in the confidence shared (not much - but something like it would be based on a current design).

Unclear about the screen. If it is the same 16:9 as a plain T470, i wont buy it.
I hope they were able to fill the screen bezel with a custom screen with as thin as possible bezel. Then i might consider it.

Bah. Since we can't have nice things, and the most important thing to me is the keyboard, if this half-arsched thing has a non-chicklet keyboard, I'll at least and out of spite consider it...

It is still funny that there is such issue to make single display ... maybe we should ask Elon Musk for help. A spaceship is required to manufacture it :)

cant we fit a 16:10 14" (or 14.1") in the bezel? http://www.displaywars.com/14-inch-16x9 ... inch-16x10 that would be more interesting, it is almost the same width, but u have more vertical space(and less wasted bezel around).
13.3" 16:10 would make a T470 machine look sily: even more bezel than a 16:9.
Edit: seems to work! X1C height is 8.55", and they can fit a 6.86" screen inside. That is, they can do it with a 1.69" gap between screen and real estate.
For the T470 with a 14.1" 16:10, we would have: height 9.15" for a 7.47" height screen, that leaves 1.68" gap. So seems doable (if u really need 1.69" and not 1.68", just do a 14" and not a 14.1"). Width is not changed, so it is a non issue.
Then I would be thrilled.
that would explain many things: -magnesium T470 showing up. -why T470 has TB and not T470p, which else didnt seem to make sense. -no redesign for T470, because they need wasted bezel on 16:9 version to accomodate for a 16:10 screen.

I've read people saying that 14.1" 16:10 isn't manufactured for Apple, so it's not easy to get a hold of anymore. I don't know anything about MacBooks, though...

At this point I'm wondering if the title of this thread should be changed from 'Thinkpaddres Rejoice' to 'Lenovo will never make a modern T43'.
That's what I think. It's been years since they told us to expect a retro ThinkPad.

I think the plug was pulled and they care so little about it or their core customer base that they never told anyone.

Way to leave free money on the table, Lenovo. I would have bought one, and I don't buy new laptops.

I think the competition already (almost) made what we we are looking for!
14.1" IPS 1080p screen, 7th gen Intel processors, the latest graphics, a new USB Type-C port, and up to 32 GB of fast DDR4 RAM.
Available with Linux ex-factory, NO MORE Winblows!

And the winner is:... System76 Lemur, starting at only $699.-

cheaper than TP, sure
but in what is it better?

keyboard seems worse.
no trackpoint....
fabric does not seem better.
16/9.
If i wnat that, i can buy a X1C. More expansive, but seem better to me.
