X61T not Recognizing Pen...Planar Issue?
X61T not Recognizing Pen...Planar Issue?
Hi Gang.
I have several X61 Tablet Models, 2 x SXGA (Pen) and 1 x XGA (Touch & Pen).
The pen has stopped responding on one of the SXGA models. After trying various software solutions, all to no avail, I removed the whole lid from both SXGA units and switched them. Lo and behold, the pen on the "bad" screen worked on the second base, and the second unit's screen refused to recognize the pen on the first unit.
Just to verify, I then stripped the XGA screen & lid and tested it on both SXGA bases. Sure enough, pen does NOT work on the first SXGA unit, but works on the second base, AND the 'bad" screen refused to recognize the pen on the XGA base.
Also, the first "bad" screen has a habit of sometimes occasionally starting up with an almost-doubled image on the screen...right from the BIOS screen and proceeding through to the Win7 desktop, where it stays permanently. If it starts that way, it stays that way. If it starts normally, then no doubling of the image on the screen, either at boot or Win 7 start . BIOS has been reset to default, but no difference.
Ergo, the foregoing leads me to believe my problem is a motherboard issue with the first X61T. Does anyone know what controls the pen signal from the digitizer panel to the planar? Pinched wire in the harness? (I've had all these units apart several times over the years for various maintenance items, and anything's possible!)
Any pointers or places to start a diagnosis greatly appreciated
Thanks. Regards.
Dave

Just out of curiosity, are the driver working on base 1? Oh the times where ive swapped 400$ graphics cards to realize only that the driver want on the latest firmware.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Yes, all driver software for pen and tablet functions were re-installed with not a whit of difference to the pen operation.
As well, the "bad" screen's pen functioned perfectly when installed on the second SXGA base with its' software, same software installation as the first machine.

What i can see i probably is a bad mobo. Youre best luck is a replacement or you coupd transplant it into a x61s and ingore touch (i think, never tried it)

Re: X61T not Recognizing Pen...Planar Issue?
Have you tried swapping the pen?
Re: X61T not Recognizing Pen...Planar Issue?
RBS, I have a half-dozen of the pens, all work except on this particular screen.
Edit: I should change that to read: "This particular motherboard"
Are schematics of the X60/61T series available anywhere for purchase? This is REALLY starting to bug me!
( I know, I know...."Google is my friend!")
Regards.
