Why X60t and not X61t panels? X60t do not suffer from the common bubbling issue.

I think there was some topic on the German forum about KB mod in this model.
Glad to see someone else doing as I want to too. What printer and what parts did you use/replace.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

... and if you search for a X62 w/X60t XGA IPS panel, I'd be happy to supply one. I ave a X62 that sees _NO_ use at all.

If you want to go really crazy, you could try to use the 12.3" display
Did not know you could do THAT.. I never noticed the little bit of extra space the bezel. And since you mentioned 12.3, there's a UXGA panel available. That would be fantastic. It does have a touchscreen and probably need a mod to be used.

Although in retrospect somebody was likely crazy enough to suggest it anyway. Always good to have enthusiasm though!

And since you told me to feel free with the questions..
1. How active is the german forum?
2. Any fun mods for X61/X20x/X30x/Frankenpads?

Awesome offer as always but I would prefer to avoid the ME backdoor. Also, since I'm not using my thinkpads for now I don't think investing the money is worth it.

Anything bad about the X62 though?

Oh, I see I somehow forgot to mention UXGA. This is exactly what I'm planning to do. :) Although I don't need a touchscreen so I probably won't connect the touch sensor.

It's pretty active, my impression is that it is quite a bit more active than this forum. I think, German folks don't use reddit and lenovo's forums as much as English speakers.

Yes, there are some fun mods. Most of them are described here, too, but often you'll find additional info on the German forum. The quadcore T6x thread for example is quite extensive. Many modding threads are in part or fully driven by el-sahef, who e.g. put a second power plug and a regular X6x fan into his X6x Tablet and who I think was the first to bring an X62 Tablet to life.

It's not as perfect as you would expect from Lenovo (let alone IBM), but properly set up, it works really well. Cool, quiet, powerful, small and light.

Did you grab that one from Ebay we'd found? There's currently one up still.

I'd want it, I think. If / when you get that screen working I'll probably want to play around with the touch part of it.

No, I haven't got a screen yet, I started by contacting the Lattice guys about the 4h limit and licensing fees mentioned in the user guide of the OpenLDI LVDS to MIPI DSI interface bridge.

There's a second screen in the bay still.

@NonesensE

I doubt that a UXGA screen would work on an X61, as it only has 2 LVDS channels-- not enough bandwidth. UXGA-capable Thinkpads like the T61 have 4 LVDS channels.

How many channels does the X62 have?

Update: I'll need a license to use the bridge for more than 4h, but the license is free. So I just ordered a screen and the conversion board. For everyone interested in details: I'll try Lattice CrossLink, using the LIF-MD6000 – Master Link Board and the OpenLDI LVDS to MIPI DSI Display Interface Bridge. And I'll fake the EDID with an Arduino.

The X6x (including the X62) have only one LVDS channel (with three lanes). And the T6x have two LVDS channels (i think, 3 lanes each as well, but with LVDS, the number of lanes only matters for colour depth). Yes, the bandwidth on the X series is somewhat limited, but this problem can be solved by reducing the refresh rate. LVDS lanes are specified for up to 1.2 Gbps which would theoretically be enough to use UXGA at >90Hz. In practice, I think 45Hz or so should work, as 60Hz SXGA+ works, too.

My mistake, but 45Hz is a bit of an oddball refresh rate, don't you think?

It is, indeed, but does it matter? Probably not, at least for my use case. I never experienced problems with the slightly oddball 50Hz of an SXGA+ tablet, either.

I ordered a chassis with the SXGA+ screen that Jacky uses for his X62. It just arrived last night and I turned machine yet (need to transplant stuff into it first).

I wonder where he is getting his panels from. The case is brand new and still has the magnism shine.

I own a X62s that I built myself from a X61t SXGA+ screen that has the worst case of bubbles and glue leakage one could imagine. I'm actually typing on it now. You get used to it.

I also have another X61t machine that has a SXGA+ that has yet develop bubbles, but I haven't used it much (stored away safely since I bought it in 2008).

We're talking about bezel cutting in this thread, if anyone's interested.

Another question: is the X200 fan the best fan, or is there a better aftermarket fan out there?

X62 users report X200 fan to be the best one.
If you ever had a X200 you surely noticed it's cool&quiet :)

EDIT: I have no time (and possibility) now to test it in my X62. Will surely do it if I decide not to sell it.

Thanks, that might indeed help with the UXGA conversion.

Heh. That's the PLL mod, IIRC. Heat would be a significant issue.

Although a Penryn CPU might help a little bit.

Also, let's talk panels. I dunno about any other 1400x1050 other than HV121P01, so here's an interesting one: http://www.panelook.com/G121XNE-L01_Inn ... 30015.html. Might lose some colors(?) due to not having enough pins, but might be pretty nice if it works.
