Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Might be a stretch, but can anyone clone me their hard drive? I'll send you the hard drive and reimburse you for the return shipping? All u got to do is waste a hour or two of your life. That's all I'm offering

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Realistically, this probably has as much chance as POTUS putting down his smartphone and permanently getting off of Twitter.
It's not as simple as you might think. For one, this person's personal files would have to be scrubbed from the copy. Or that if they have some licensed software, it would probably have to be uninstalled. Is there something preventing you from installing a fresh copy of the OS from the factory restore disks? It's usually much easier to copy and ship the restore disks. Cheaper still, if your benefactor can simply post the .ISO images and you download them yourself (assuming you have access to a good broadband connection and a way to burn optical disks).

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Sorry, but as Ray said.
Most any installation will have personal data and licensed software which CANNOT be given away, via a drive cloning. And uninstalling the software from the cloned drive will be a PiA, because he would have to swap the cloned drive into the computer to boot from and run the uninstall for ALL his programs to bring the system to similar to a just installed OS condition. Then locate and delete ALL his personal files. This not an hour or two, but possibly MANY hours. Frankly that will be more trouble than it will be worth for the person doing it. I would not do it for my wife, I would just do a clean OS install.
In fact, I think the OS itself is keyed, so you would be using someone else's license key, which would create problems for the owner. Because that key is for ONE computer, his, not yours.
Your best bet is to buy a Windows 7 installation kit. You can get it for about $30 on eBay.

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Most of us have better things to do with our spare time than spend it on cloning drives for complete strangers.
Good luck with that proposal. That's all I'm offering
Obtain the disks, install/tweak the OS and waste a few hours of your own life.

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
The first recovery-CD will wipe and partition that drive.
It will also install the Recovery partition for next time.
BUT: the installed/recovered Windows will need a few hundred updates each time, so be warned.

If that is 64 bit Windows 7 then it would be really convenient if those discs were to somehow mysteriously become available as .torrent files!rnrjong wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2017 9:46 amAahhhh~~~

I can't find 64 bit Windows 7 for T61. Some wonderful advice pointed me to the SL410 discs which are available. But it would be nice to see the desktop as it was intended.

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
I have used Lenovo Recovery Disks with W7-Pro/SP1 64-bit from a T420 on many other models, as long as they had Slic2.1 in their BIOS.
Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Because the ISO doesn't exist as such. None of the *61 series was ever offered with W7 from the factory.

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
It's possible when using the newer sets that the "Application and Drivers" disks will not work. In which case you only need to use the "Operating System" recovery disk and decline to insert the Application disks. This worked when I installed Lenovo's Windows 7 32 bit on my T42p. The same disk moved without problem into my A31p. I installed some software like Rapid Boot myself from installation files I have on other environments that were created with the provided Applications and Drivers.

Re: Looking for somebody to clone me their hard drive
Well I think I may be able to help you with that. I have a Windows image of a ThinkPad T43 running Windows 7. the license is semi-pirated and shared with many ThinkPads of mine. zero personal data, just Windows 7 x86 with preinstalled T43 drivers and a license that I have no idea where it came from. I can try giving you the Windows recovery files, you store them inside another hard drive, make a recovery CD, and restore them onto your hard drive. PM if interested.
