Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
LP125WF2 SPB4 were out of stock at win0win's store, so I bought a LP125WF2 SPB3. Hopefully it's fine anyway.
Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
I took delivery of an SPB3, but I think it's been damaged during transit - there's weird marks under the surface of the screen, and the panel itself looks a little bit twisted...
Sadly I can't even test it as I don't have my FHD kit yet.

where did you buy it ?
Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
I bought it from a European ebay seller who I've bought from before, no problems with them so far.

LCD screens are little cracked demons. Why do they deal with this do often???? It seems like every other panel is broken
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

http://www.ebay.it/itm/Compatible-Led-L ... 1277695358?
is this SPB4 suitable for the x220?
My only doubt is that I don't see the holes for the screws in the picture.
thanks

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
The SPB4 is one of the best (I have one).
But if you read seller's post:
But if you read seller's post:
You better verify that you ONLY receive the exact LP125WF2-SPB4 screen with 3 mounting holes each on the left and right short sides, NOT a compatible one!You are looking at a Brand New (Original Equipment Manufacturer) replacement screen this is guaranteed to be fully compatible with the LCD part number or laptop model specified in the title of this listing.
Notebook manufacturers use different types of screens when assembling a single model of Laptop. As a result, more than one type of screen can be used by the same laptop model.
You will receive a screen manufactured by one of the big brands like LG Philips, Toshiba, Samsung, AUO, INNOLUX, CMO or CLAA if the exact part no. is not available in stock.

I added myself to the Pre-Order list, before you made the changes.
Have now re-added it, hope this is ok.
Looking forward to a confirmation.

We can't warn against that often enough!
When it says in the title or description: for xyz, or compatible one, all your hair should stand up!
Because I'm afraid that's what you'll get.

It's OK if you confirm the exact model with the seller.

finding a LG LP125WF2-SPB4 is proving to be more complicated than I thought!
I also contacted other UK sellers but most of them sell compatible models such as the Samsung LTN125HL02-301.

LTN125HL02-301 is probably fine too.
Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Yes, the seller confirmed they had both SPB3 and SPB4 in stock, and just to let them know which one I need. We'll have to see if they get it right.nitrocaster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2017 4:13 amIt's OK if you confirm the exact model with the seller.

When I submitted there wasn't a deposit, do I need to resubmit and put a deposit down?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
It works just as before in that regard. The difference is that now I will be taking partial payments before I have tested kits.
I'm checking the BOM with suppliers and will start accepting deposits once they confirm that every critical part is in stock.

Can you give an estimate how many people are on the pre-order list?
As I said I had put myself up before the deposit change, and have now re-added it

Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody know which kind of paste Louis is using in his video at 14:42 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBvfJ0EHtcY&t=886s ?
@Nitro, I just got my mod and I am looking forward to install it.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Hello
I finally got my kit, but I think I was a little bit too excited when i tried to install it
Backlight and brightness control works, but no image. An IC near the lower edge of the mainboard gets really hot, then the computer shuts down.
Original screen still works, but same thing with the hot IC and shutdown, something is shorted?
I tried reflowing and wicking the dock pins but I messed up and lifted some pads. The leftmost pin on the adapter board has continuity with ground, is this supposed to be?
I uploaded some pictures here http://imgur.com/a/HELo4
I wonder if this is at all salvageable?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
What happens when you turn on with the stock screen? Does it show ThinkPad logo before shutting down?
The IC you pointed is audio codec.
Something bad happened with your mobo, but I don't understand why audio IC has something to do with it.

No. Normal resistance to ground is about 100K.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Maybe the IC itself got shorted? Check VCC3MA, VCC5MA, VCC3_CODEC and AVDD_3R3_AUDIO.
Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Yes, with stock screen the thinkpad logo shows. The computer stays on for about 20sec and starts loading windows, before shutting down.nitrocaster wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2017 11:39 amWhat happens when you turn on with the stock screen? Does it show ThinkPad logo before shutting down?

Both VCC3MA and VCC3_CODEC measures continuity with ground, the others do not.nitrocaster wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2017 11:47 amMaybe the IC itself got shorted? Check VCC3MA, VCC5MA, VCC3_CODEC and AVDD_3R3_AUDIO.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Well, I guess you are not getting image because of ripped pads.
VCC3MA and VCC3_CODEC have direct connection to VCC3B, which is powered from VCC3M. If your audio codec shorts this rail to ground (which is very likely) that would explain why it gets hot and why the machine shuts itself down. What is the resistance between VCC3M and GND?
Where did you get this motherboard?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
I have submitted my order around the start of 2nd batch, but have yet to receive a message or confirmation. Been really looking forward to modding both of my x220/x230 . Is there a possibility of me making into the 3rd batch?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
I put your question in FAQ.
I'll start collecting deposits once I confirm everything with suppliers. That means everyone in the waiting list will be included in the 3rd batch.
