Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
I think this should be called the Thinkpad Retromod.
If you can call a 70 corvette with a new fancy engine a 70 corvette, because it is still a sports car that does what its intended purpose.
Same with thinkpads. Without a keyboard and square lcd, is it still a Thinkpad?
Really, if it gets work done efficently, is super rugged, why cant it bear the Thinkpad Name?
Thinkpads were designed to get work done no matter what happened. If it can do that, its a thinkpad. As the new(xx40 and later) are fragile movie machines. Therefore they arent thinkpads.

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Yet another Chinese company disproving the popular mythos about how 3:2 screens are hard to get, expensive, and would bring the price of the device up. Look here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Cube-Thin ... 312.0.html
That's a budged laptop with such a screen. Sure, this particular one has [censored] RGB coverage, but not that worse than most Thinkpads...

They are apparently using C-grade quality screen of the Microsoft Surface Book production, if you look at brightness distribution and sRGB values. In other words, they are using the trash of the production that Microsoft doesn´t want.
This doesn´t matter. HP, Dell, Lenovo, if one of those manufacturers releases a 3:2 Notebook, that would be a big change.

There are more of them, check Chuwi company and many others. These might a C-grade but still better than most of Lenovo ones And there is no display vendor lottery.evening_hunger wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:12 amThat's a budged laptop with such a screen. Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (Core i5, Full-HD): 61.44% sRGB, Brightness Distribution: 88 %, Contrast: 1020:1
Cube Thinker Laptop (Core m3-7Y30, 8 GB, 256 GB): 70% sRGB, Brightness Distribution: 81 %, Contrast: 1723:1
And a 230 Euro Chuwi Hi12 Tablet Review: 95.2% sRGB, Brightness Distribution: 89 %, Contrast: 1145:1. Better in every parameter compared to T470.

What about the quality control? Does Brightness Distribution mean how even the brightness is across the panel?

Yes. On the tested "Cube Thinker" laptop, the lower right corner is 100 nits darker than the upper left.

Reminds me the famous T440 LG vs AUO war where the uniformity was also terrible. But the 230 Euro Chuwi has better screen than T470 In other words no need to bash cheap chinese laptops since they provide screen we want for a long time.

A Tablet, which you can´t compare with a Notebook anyway. Tablets with bad screens are rare. Notebooks, especially Business Notebooks, not so rare.
Well, maybe the second-rate version of the wanted screen. And its terrible in every other way. If you just want a good screen, you could also buy a Macbook Pro. Terrible keyboards, but good screens.

At least Macbook's are 16:10. What's it take to put a Retina in my T500? Retina to HDMI adapters exist. The gloss would kill me though, since I like using my laptop outside.

I don't think you understand how good Retina monitors are.
You'd think the gloss would be a problem, but my sister uses her MacBook Pro in direct sunlight and the backlight is so bright that it's perfectly readable!
Really incredible! (especially compared to my weak ThinkPad screen that's only viewable in dim indoor lighting)

I've been fantasizing about transplanting MB 13'' screen into x230 for some time, until nitrocaster cured me of it by explaining that mac's backlight is hardly removable, in other words one would need to transplant entire lid. Still, fruit screen in a Thinkpad would constitute a Holy Grail of Laptops. So far, AFAIK noone's done it.

If thats not proof I dont know what is.
3: Did you expect anything different from a group of Thinkpadders wanting a productive computer? What would you say if Lenovo made a total s**t version of the trackpoint. Wouldnt you go crazy(unless you use touchpads then you wouldn't care

Either that picture or the concept from the Time Machine blog.
Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
Personally I don't care much about ratio, just vertical pixels. Anything less than 1000 feels cramped. 1280x1024, 1400x1050, 1680x1050, 1920x1080 are all OK with me for 12" screens.
Current Thinkpads:

T480 (QHD)

Anything less than 1000 is absolutely worthless for *my* needs, not just cramped and I would *really* like 1200, d a m n the torpedoes. TBT, I don't believe that I could handle 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 on a 12" for an extended period of time.

I feel that that 1920x1200 is a very good resolution for me. Its very good for photo-editing where a nice 4:3 image sits in the middle with all my controls around it. No wasted space what so ever.ajkula66 wrote:Anything less than 1000 is absolutely worthless for *my* needs, not just cramped and I would *really* like 1200, d a m n the torpedoes. I enjoy WUXGA too but on my T500. I've never seen a higher DPI than 147 DPI except some 4K Ideapad at Best Buy so I don't know if I would be comfy with 12" WUXGA.

Considering the availability of 3:2 screens... I'm really really hoping this thing gets a 3:2 IPS 1920x1280 display at the minimum. Give me a socket for the CPU, and at least 2 DIMM slots, with a bay for battery/hdd(SSD)/optical drive... Yum!
Will have to wait and see... My trust in Lenovo isn't so hot. They've really done a lot of damage to the ThinkPad brand.
