W500 Recovery media

#1 Post by Greggie » Tue Aug 22, 2017 10:29 am

Hi,

I am looking for recovery media for my W500, 4062-5FU, if I am right, it came with Windows 7 Pro. Checked the Lenovo side and they don't support it anymore.
Is there someone who can help me out?
Thanks,
Greg

ANY Lenovo Recovery set with W7-Pro/SP1 (32- or 64-bit) from a T420/T520/W520/X220 and down will work.
You'll "only" need to manually download a few W500-specific drivers (plus tons of M$-updates).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
Lenovo: X240, X250, T440p, T480, M900 Tiny.

PS: the old Boardroom website is still available on the Wayback Machine

Start reading the Forum's other posts!
And look for Lenovo's EOL portal.

Lenovo moved the device drivers and software utilities over to their End of Life Product Resource Website for the older product lines - if you go there you'll be able to find what you need. :D

EDIT: For the section listed as 'Device Drivers File Matrix', you'll need to select the following to get what you'll need to download - hope it helps!

Type: 'Laptops & Tablets'
Series: 'ThinkPad W Series'
SubSeries: 'ThinkPad W500'
X200s (MTN: 7470-DH5)
WXGA+ LED LCD, L9400 CPU, 8GB RAM, 480GB SSD & 2TB HDD (via Ultrabase Docking Station)

Well for the W500 is gives a 404 error, file or directory not found....
Thanks,

Greg

Grab the T500 drivers instead.
Only difference really between T500 and W500 is the 2 vs. 4 RAM slots. Ouch! See next post.

Different ram slots is the case for T510 v. W510.

W500 is the exact same laptop as T500 just with W500 name badge, 4000 model number, no 1280x800 option, and FireGL GPU that is the same as Radeon 3650.

But yes drivers are the exact same.

Cheers for that, as it was working last week when I was helping a mate out. :(

....long time between posts here...
My W500 (faithful) is working nicely with Win10Pro x64....However the "video card switching" is the only thing not working the way it used to with Win7.
I do the switch in BIOS and it works in one or the other one ( both updated to latest win10 drivers from MS Updates)
and it all works - even the SIM CARD (am with ATT). I used the MS auto update from win7pro to win10pro , then installed manually other missing drivers via EOL portal. I did have a minor glitch with "activation" of Ericsson WWAN-Card F3507g - and found this post
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ins ... 010?auth=1 which helped...
However I didn't do (often don't) IOS update and thus got the famous '3vvt Win10 keys (default OEM keys from MS).

Hope this helps someone
Cheers...
