The oldest ThinkPad I've owned - 600E
The oldest ThinkPad I've owned - 600E
I've had tons of T2x/T4x/T6x, various *00 - *30s and thanks to hwattys I've got a 600E.

I cleaned the nub with a spare toothbrush and it came out pretty nice. Removed the Windows sticker since it was faded anyways but it left some sticky residue so I removed that with magic eraser. Thoroughly cleaned the machine since the rubber coating was sticky... it still is in some areas. Anyways I had a 60GB HD lying around, put 98SE on it. I got lucked out with 366MHz + 288MB RAM + XGA. He even threw in a WiFi card and it works fine in the original drive he sent with it (15GB).
I might get a selectabase + selectadock for it and put in a PCI video card to make it an even better retro rig. Thank you again hwattys for the fast shipping.

Nice piece of hardware you got there. As long as its in good hands is all it matters.
Re: The oldest ThinkPad I've owned - 600E
Thanks! It's even cleaner now. While I was at it, cleaned a T60 too

I have a few 600's, they are nice machines. Think I have a few removable drive bays for the optical slot (maybe a floppy drive as well) and a small stack of ZIP drives for them.
The sticky coating can be a pain to clean and I have seen a few palm rests that are messed up. Also those port cover flaps seem to be glued on?

Nice computer! The 600 series are becoming desirable among collectors and the prices keep going up.
I was watching this one but someone beat me to it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192252035920

Thanks! Bummer you missed out on that 600X, looked to be a clean unit. I love your resources on your site by the way and I've had it bookmarked for years. Thank you

This is amazing - if it was from ebay, who was the seller? (In case they have more retro stuff)oeuvre wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2017 6:30 pmOHHHHHHH YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! The selectadock II came, NIB! Pictures galore here https://imgur.com/a/eG2cJ
