4k T570 screen in T540p
Hi all,
I read this today : http://www.pcworld.com/article/3153609/ ... ptane.html
I currently have a T540p with a basic FHD Panel and i was thinking of upgrading it. The T540p has a stock 3K Panel but since i lazied out on the upgrade, now that the T570 brings a 15.6 official 4K Panel to the ThinkPad line i would rather upgrade to the 4K panel instead.
Now i would like to know if any of you has any tips or info about this before i start investigating further. I am thinking of things like :
Can the panel fit where the old one is currently right now? and, is it the same connection inside the laptop to connect the panel?
Thanks again.

Re: 4k T570 screen in T540p
I don't think it's possible.
Those machines at that time were not designed to drive a 4K display, at least that's my theory, what was the maximum resolution on the T540p?
At one point in the past I wondered the same thing but on a T460, to put a WQHD panel. In the end is not possible since the motherboard does not support 4 lane eDP video signal which is required to drive anything more than FHD.
So in the end I just bought a used standard FHD T460p and got from eBay the WQHD LCD screen and cable. Piece of cake.

Re: 4k T570 screen in T540p
Those are totally different animals...
The T540p was available with a 3K screen that needed 4 eDP lanes. So in theory, it should be possible to drive a 4K screen with the 3K cable. The question is: has anyone ever tried?

Re: 4k T570 screen in T540p
Hi!
Sorry for the late reply.
I got the 3K screen for a little less than 80 USD over eBay (and then i realized it was a different cable... lol)
3K is sufficient really. It's crystal sharp for this device. Some games run on the 730M in 3K (PVK2 and Darkest Dungeons) but it's pretty much the top max i can ever ask of this hardware. I play CS:GO on 1440*810 (half resolution) and it looks superbe.
Not to forget, the panasonic panel is astonishingly beautiful.
Get the 3K panel you will not regret it.
Cheers!

Re: 4k T570 screen in T540p
I took a stab at it. No it didn't work. I took out the 4k display from my T570 and replaced 3k display on the W540 with it. The LCD cable are fine since they both are 4-pin eDP types. It stayed black with power button pushed, no life. Don't know if anybody else succeeds on this.

Did your ThinkPad work fine after putting the original screen back in? I tried putting a 4k screen in my w540 and now it won't work with any screen

I think it's possible you blew out the fuse on the motherboard by putting in a screen that it's not compatible with
