Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
So it's around 1.75mm thick with both protective papers still on. The 03 (on top) doesn't seem much thicker than the 21, perhaps 0.1mm. AFAIK w11 and w21 are pretty much the same. w15 would be a w11 with the plug on the correct side (some of the taobao modders use it).
This is the cable "management" for camera & others. Once you get it out of the way, the panel will sit nicely at the edge of the camera curve, resting on the bottom plastic square.
I'd guess the bleeding has to do with the lid trimming or cables.
Also, congrats on doing a 03. That was a pain, wasn't it ?
Note on serviceability : Take a picture of the pads before you put the screen in. You can slide a flexible metal ruler behind the panel to separate them one by one. My panel was slightly misaligned on the right and I fixed it by lifting it off on 5 of the 10 pads to push the screen down. You could probably remove the whole panel if you don't put too much adhesive and know where it is.

Hey Boutch,
How did you solve the cable length issue when using the W11 screen?
I ordered 3 W15's and they've all arrived as W11's instead, so obviously the connector is on the far side.
Cheers.

Couldn't find the right cable so I chained 2 of those. Works great, no interference.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Ahhhh I see. So that's what you meant by switchers then.boutch55555 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2017 5:23 amCouldn't find the right cable so I chained 2 of those. Works great, no interference.
I ended to just adding in cable to make the original one longer. Works great now. I cut the bezel with a craft knife and metal rule, then finished with a diamond file. I do have a slight light leaky spot where it seems the bezel is pressing too much onto the screen. I'll have a go at that again tomorrow but super happy with the results.
Thanks for the info.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
While removing the bezel, if the side clips are too tight, undo top & bottom first, then slide the sides ~1cm up or down to get the clips out of the brackets.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Oh I can pop them in and out easily enough. I think it's due to the gap around the screen being quite tight in the lid. I opted to keep the rubber bumpers on the sides of the bezel so I still have room to trim, if needed.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Just a warning.
If someone has, like me, the bright idea of flashing the screen to disable adaptive brightness, don't do it. (except if you find a way to take a good backup first)
Even if you did your research for 0DJCP6 part number, that matches the W21 and the 9350, it will just kill the screen.
I have a new one on the way, I'll try to extract an original firmware and patch it back.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Perhaps someone that bought a w21 could do an extract for me ? Using this driver from Dell, when running TCON_DP_REWORK_TOOL from the 9350 folder, there is a "Save Romcode" in the "others" menu. It prompts that it will update but it just extracts. Tested with a w03, still works
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Guys, any experience on the LQ133M1JW15 panel? Do I need to cut the PCB in order to fit the panel like the LQ133M1JW11? Can I even do it? (no circuitry like LQ133M1JW11)?

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
This taobao seller says "do not use: Chi Mei GP1 , Sharp w15 , Sharp 13.3-inch 2K screen". There's a mention of it being 0.5-1mm wider, you might end up with unequal bezels and difficulty with the side clips, they are already really tight with the w11/21.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Ok, but I wanted to avoid having to fit under the screen an EDP extension cable

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
That FHD board has a cable that's long enough (tested). I haven't found another solution yet.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Ok, hopefully the kits that I got have an edp cable long enough, otherwise I can always get this cheap edp extender.
Once superbuy confirms my order, I'll buy a LQ133M1JW11 screen. I've heard that it has a better color coverage than the LQ133M1JW21.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Would the LQ133M1JW11 need two extenders with the nitrocaster mod like the LQ133M1JW21?

What about the B133HAN04.9 screen, its outline dimensions are 299.872(H)×186.92(V) ×2.2(D) mm. Should fit, no?
Edit: Probably even better the B133HAN04.6 I think it is easier to install, since the led driver is behind the panel see here.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Now having both I can confirm that W11 and W21 are identical. That other screen looks a bit too high. It might be possible to unscrew the controller board from the support and flip it on the back of the panel though.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I just received
W15 from win0win, screen is great
specification on panellook is correct. It's 300mm wide, and 188mm tall, from top to pcb bottom.
Horizontal fit is fine, problem is pcb is too wide to fit between hinges. So it needs to be cut in order to bring panel lower.
I peeled the black tape on one end of pcb, it looks to me I won't get enough space by cutting pcb( there are some connections close to the edge of pcb).
I am thinking to leave the panel higher in the lid. I will have to cut more on the upper bezel, camera modul will go out. And 2mm of lower screen edge is visible (plastic bezel is lower than screen edge)
Boutch do you have any pictures of chinese guys fitting w15?
Thank you all.
EDIT: OK, so on this link, from taobao seller https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=550 ... oSite=main, W15's pcb is already cut, on left and right side(I can post uncut pictures). So it can be cut safely.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Ok I share here some photos of my x230 transformed in a x330 using the B133HAN04.6.
The panels fits, but I had to cut pieces from the hinges also. Cutting the screen bezel ended up quite messy, I bought another new one that, once arrived, I will give it to a guy with the right equipment to cut for me.
Screen brightness works out of the box in Debian stretch Xfce. But I will recompile the kernel wit the fhd patch, because on lid close Xfce things that there is another monitor attach and does not suspend the pc.
Edit: the matte layer on the B133HAN04.6 is bit grainy, but overall the screen is really nice.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Nice, it fits with a single extender !
Looks like it's easier to fit than my panels, less metal to cut at bottom of the lid, no pcb cutting, more room around the webcam.
Are the left & right edges equal ? If you could take pictures of both sides with a ruler (like this) next time you open it, it would be very appreciated.
Tkx for spending the $$$ to test a new screen.

Hey boutch55555, it is very easy to fit with only one extender and without the need to cut any piece of the PCB. Left and right sides are equal, I will take a high resolution pictures of the screen borders asap.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Please also check the result of that adaptive brightness test, I saw lots of people that would like to do the 13.3 mod but don't want that "feature" that's enabled by default on all the Sharp panels I got...
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I finally had time to open the lid, here are some pictures of the screen borders.
Also I did the adaptive brightness test, the screen is not affected by dynamic contrast.
I've received the new bezels, once I cut them will post results/method here.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I noticed that the screen have a bit of bleed from the top part, the top part of the bezel is pressing down the screen. I've removed it and cut the following piece of the bezel, from both sides, no more black beeld
With the classic keyboard mod and nitrocaster 13.3 inch screen, my x230 is the best thing I've ever owned!

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Just another warning if anyone else think they can skip some of the tape / padding to improve serviceability. This isn't a good idea. I went from 12 pads to 6. Can you guess where 3 of them are ?

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Does that damage the screen or is it like poking a LCD(makes strange colors but no damage)?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
That's screen damage. If I had to guess, that happened when I stuffed a big coffee bag next to it in my messenger bag. Must have pressed the lid and did those when it bounced against my hip. I did the same with my first panel that had 12 supports without issues.
It's not that bad, mostly noticeable on white backgrounds, but it annoys me enough to replace it. Guess I'll buy a B133HAN04.6 and test with 16 pads, with only 4 in the corners + 1 in the center that have adhesive exposed.
Lesson learned : you can cheap out on the adhesive, but absolutely not on the support.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I did not use any pads under B133HAN04.6, I've added a bit of silicone glue under its four corners to stabilize it well. I don't have the problem you've mentioned neither any other annoying problem.
It is easy to detach the screen fro the silicone glue under it, I've done it once already to remove some pieces of the lid that were pushing out the screen against the bezel.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I've contacted 3 sellers on taobao. and no one have B133HAN04.6 in stock (nor can promise exact term).
there are B133HAN04.9 in stock. but as i see it has different connector location (under the screnn)
What panel would you recommend for x230 13.3 mod?

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I bought my B133HAN04.6 panel taobao through superbuy, maybe you can do the same.
I think the B133HAN04.9 should fit, actually at the beginning I was about to get it, but then I discovered the B133HAN04.6 which has the led driver panel flipped upside down, I thought it would be easier to fit, I was not wrong

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I've already chatted with that seller.
he has only B133HAN04.9
And I'm not sure if I will have to cut lcd's bottom PCB. I do not want LCD to sit very high as wanna save web camera as well.
