Which battery sits flush with 15" T60 / T60p case?

#1 Post by xsixt » Sat Oct 28, 2017 9:50 pm

Wondering whether it is the 4-cell or the 6-cell battery, that sits flush with the 15" (non-wide) T60p chassis?

I have the 9 cell currently, and that one protrudes quite a bit from the case.

I think both the 4 and 6 cell batts will fit flush.

There is no 4-cell for a T60, only 6-cell (flush) and 9-cell (protrude).

Legend! Thanks for clearing that up.

I read that the 4-cell sits flush with another model - perhaps the 14" Widescreen (T61)?

Yes. Early 14" widescreens had only flush 4-cells. This includes the Z60t/Z61t (Z6x 4-cell battery) and 14" wide T61/R61/T400/R400 (T/R 14W 4-cell battery).

Since the T410 series, the design changed and once again they have flush 6-cells.

Good trivia - thank you.

Surprisingly difficult to find this sort of info by web searching, it's like putting a FRU into ebay and seeing all the "Genuine" "Replacement" options.

Ain't that the truth.

And the two different style x61 batteries makes it even worse. I have all three styles of T61 (14" reg. 14" WS and 15" WS). The 14" WS is approx 1/2 in shorter front to back from the other two. They couldn't figure out how to use the same basic planar & case style for all 3???

Some of the smaller batteries are rare too - I thought I got lucky when I found a "brand new" genuine X61T 4-cell a couple of years ago. When it arrived after it's 30 day detour around the world using "NL Mail", it was indeed genuine and brand new with it's 0 charge count, but it was completely DOA

I ordered a supposedly genuine 6-cell T60 battery from ebay - hopefully it's real and works otherwise it's money back guarantee time

Yeah, especially the 4 cell slim battery for the X6xs is hard to find (there are no non-genuine batteries in this case). I'm using a thick 4 cell battery now in my X62s, which is not really beautiful.

I found one of the flat X61s batteries, though the capacity on it is pretty bad.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

A Core 2 Duo and a tiny battery, thats pretty much a desktop with an attached keyboard and screen.

A Core 2 Quad and a tiny battery, well that IS a desktop. Would you like to know the battery life of a W700 with a 7wh battery .

I'd say, re-cell it, but today's cells in that form factor aren't really better than the old ones, whereas the round 18650 cells made a huge leap in capacity.

Is re-celling a doable option? I have a few T60 batteries, and the 18650 cells in them are in pretty bad shape, some of the batteries last for about 20 minutes. Also I think I read it somewhere, that when these batteries die completely, the battery circuit in them shuts down, and even if we replaced the cells, you wouldn't be able to charge it. I am still thinking about reading up on this matter, but there is not much information out (in english at least), and what there is, sometimes contradicts different sources.

Some non-genuine batteries don't lock up. But the real thing is this:
