Firmware RB02 Download Link

#1 Post by Callahan » Tue Nov 07, 2017 3:35 pm

I am using a Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-852 in my T41. It has firmware RB01 but I saw some mention of firmware RB02 on Google.

I was trying to burn a double capacity DVD (8.5) and had no luck completing the burn. Used four DVDs and always getting an error. I am using Memorex and read on Google that it's probably a media problem. I generally use Verbatim 4.7 DVDs but had bought these Memorex probably 5 or 6 years ago. I have heard that Memorex is not rated well.

I also discovered that there is a RB02 firmware available but I can not find a direct download link to that version. I am wondering if I install the newer firmware maybe I can burn these Memorex DVDs and salvage a few, instead of throwing them away. I will be ordering some Verbatim 8.5 DVDs.

Anyone know of a direct download link to the RB02 firmware? I probably should update the burner anyway or is this maybe a bad firmware version and I should stick with the RB01 version?

Thanks ...

I thought I should post a follow-up on my DVD Dual Layer burning problem. I did get a pack of Verbatim 8.5 DL DVDs from Amazon last week. I tried burning several more Memorex DL DVDs while I was waiting for the Verbatim DL DVDs to arrive. I had bought a pack of 50 some years back but not one burn completed ... all failures.

When I got the Verbatim DL DVDs ... the first DVD burned perfect, the second DVD was a failure, the third was a success, then another failure and the rest were OK. I needed to have four DVDs burned for the project I wanted to save. So I used six DVDs to get four good burns.

I have come to the conclusion, I probably do not need the RB02 update ... I never had a problem burning any single layer DVDs, I have mostly always used Verbatim SL DVDs in the last four years ... some other brands before that including Amazon's own brand and there have been no problems.

Also, in hindsight ... if I would have thought this out better. It was a waste of money buying these dual layer DVDs. The 30 pack Verbatim DL DVDs cost me around $34 at Amazon and for about $24 I could could have bought a 100 package of Verbatim SL DVDs ... of which have always burned 100% OK for me.

In conclusion ... it's too late now but I will never buy Dual Layer DVDs again ... especially since two of the DL Verbatim DVDs were burn failures.

Now ... just yesterday, I have posted about a problem with my T41 that started happening this week. Just this morning as I logged on I began to suspect that my CD/DVD burner may have gone bad or something. I did burn SL DVDs last week and those four DL DVDs ... but this morning I could not burn an ISO image to a blank CD. I have to look into this more.

Perhaps, this was the problem all along ... the burner was going bad ... perhaps the 40 Memorex DL DVDs that I just threw away were OK after all and the two Verbatim DL burn failures were only because the CD/DVD burner was going bad.

I don't know ... I do know that fooling around with Dual Layer DVDs seems to be a complete waste of money ... with the cost and time wasted trying to get a good burn.

Can't be bothered to burn any CD/DVD in a laptop.
Instead I'm using an ASUS DRW-24B1ST drive in my desktop.
For 8.5GB I use Verbatim DVD +R DL and burn them at 6x speed, the slowest my burner can do.
Bought a box of 15, still have 6 left. No duds yet.
For 4.7GB I use TDK DVD +R and burn them also at 6x speed. 2 duds in about 3 years.
For 700MB CDs I use either TDK or Philips and burn those at 52x speed. No duds.
If a laptop needs a CD/DVD I have a few external USB drives, that work on all of them.

Altogether I think I have about 1000 CDs/DVDs lying around in various boxes.

(Last year I threw about 300 pre-recorded CDs/DVDs out, that came with PC-magazines about 10 years ago.)
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

RealBlackStuff ... thanks for the reply. I have a new USB CD/DVD burner that I have never used. I bought it around 8 or 9 years ago and it's been packed away in a box since that time. I was going to get rid of it a few years ago but didn't, I will have to get it out ... maybe those Dual Layer DVDs will burn better in that burner. I didn't think of that before.

I probably won't burn as many CDs / DVDs in the future as I have over the last ten years. I was always saving news articles, Youtube videos and old software programs for Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 and now I only use WinXP. Got rid of many old CDs and DVDs with Windows 98SE programs and other junk.

Who has the time these days ... it's a shame but no point in having boxes of old useless CDs/DVDs that I will never look at again. It was fun back in the day.

I will keep you in mind if my external burner doesn't work. It has a power adapter and I should have used it more.
