hard time powering on a t61 ..

#1 Post by boodi » Tue Jan 16, 2018 2:24 am

As title says , I have hard time powering on a t61 : in particular , this laptop shows both leds of power plug when plugged and battery when battery inserted , but seems to power on ( via keyboard button ) only rarely , or random , and usually it happens with battery removed - but many times it doesn't power up even with battery removed (?)

I noticed also this pc power up itself early on the morning ( that is when I wake up it's on ), this happens "without issues"

When it's on it doesn't have a problem at least it seems so from basic routines ( surfing internet , playing videos etc )

any idea? it's just like the power on keyboard button wouldn't work..but then when *very rarely* the pc turns on and stay on with no issues , the power button seems to work .

https://photos.app.goo.gl/beUnRsfBXHQkCbpB2 this is the position in wich today I managed with various attempt to turn it on. If i should bet on a keyboard short I would say no. Now it powers on and off .

It looks like a damaged keyboard flex cable
or soldering the connector is bad.
Are the connector pins clean?

super clean. notice that once it powers on a time (usually without even pressing the power button.......) keyboard operations and power button work fir that day . Or until i unplug ac or battery.
Then the problem represents.

could be a problem of capacitors preventing damages /for a short - voltage leak?

the thinkpad powered on on itself two days ago in (wake on lan?)

another time powered on inserting the battery and the ac jack togheter; keyboard power button works flawlessly if i remove and reinstall cpu and heatfan .Then when I unplug ac or battery the problem represents

1) Try resetting the BIOS by default, and disable the "wake on lan"
2) Get a list of devices due to which wakes Windows 10 -

Run the command prompt as administrator.
Enter the command: powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

3) In the device manager, prevent waking up to surplus devices.
