T23 Windows 95 drivers?

#1 Post by Raidriar » Wed Jan 24, 2018 12:46 am

I'm setting up this T23 for my father, who had fond memories of using this laptop at work when he was still in the semiconductor R&D business. I already have windows 2000 set up and working smoothly (with wireless N internal wifi no less), but Windows 95 has not been cooperating, mainly since it is missing several drivers. Does anybody have a resource disk for windows 95 (or 98, but 95 preferable)

I did, and I attempted to download and install anything labeled windows 95, but several devices remain missing.

The T23 wasn't designed for W95, so getting drivers will be a pain but search around for the individual components.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

PCI Universal Serial Bus, Ethernet, Cardbus, Wifi card (which is my fault, I replaced the internal one, and I know it is incompatible with W95), and I have yellow exclamation points with the IDE controller and the sound chip. Video card and power manager/battery installed fine. Sound kinda works, kinda doesn't, even though I used the Windows 95 driver.

I remember 95 being very finicky about drivers and the order that you install them. PCMCIA drivers stand out as the most annoying.

What version of 95 are you running? I'd suggest trying OSR2.5 (95C?) to get the best luck with USB support.

I've managed to get PCI USB cards and wireless cards that require 98 and later to work on various machines but that was pretty much all dumb luck...

My point is that you can probably get everything but the wifi to work if you play around with it enough.

Also, check out this site. http://toastytech.com Lots of interesting stuff there.

Why not use 98? Drivers are much easier to find on 98.

He had certain games he used to play, that are picky and will only run in windows 95 and absolutely nothing else, forget compatibility mode, they won't even run on Win98

If it is for a game, then why not just use the T23 for W2K and some other machine like a 600 for 95?

I think I will be going that route.

This page shows the Windows 95 drivers being available for all components on the ThinkPad T23:

https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... m/T23.html

You can use this page to install the USB drivers under Windows 95, they are Texas Instruments TI-1420:

http://priede.bf.lu.lv/ftp/pub/OS/dator ... 5sfdv.html

Follow those instructions on that page to update through Device Manager.
