x200 with express card

#1 Post by radostzohany » Sun Dec 31, 2017 11:58 am

Hi and happy holidays and new year,
I want to ask if someone here have experience with 54mm express card to 2 or 3 usb 3.0 ports
I know this device cant reach the full speed of usb 2 but I think the upgrade in transfer speeds would be worth it.
I saw some of those cards come with installer, does that mean they work on win machines only ?

I wrote about them here and here.

The installer is just a convenience. With proper drivers installed, of them will work on Windows (XP and newer) or any modern Linux distribution (which should have the drivers built into the kernel).

Beware the Renesas uPD720202 ones. They may have issues with certain chipsets (probably the fault of the chipset, but still). I know X220 is affected for sure, not certain about your X200.

I also read that some people had problems with some chipsets, can you please recommend something reliable ?
Thank you :help: :D

Try cards based on ASMedia ASM1042 or Fresco Logic FL1009 chipsets.

Minor correction: Fresco Logic FL1100. That's what I use in my X220. :D

Yeah, you're right. I think FL1009 is also OK, but FL1100 is better. FL1000 was the problematic one as it was only 1-port Gen1, and did not properly support MSI interrupts.

You don't need to install drivers for it. If your kernel is recent enough, it's plug and play.

I've seen ones on Taobao with NEC D720202, I'm guessing that won't work with my X200 then.
