Weird Trackpoint/UltraNav issues

For the past few months I've been trying to figure out why my trackpoint would randomly stop working after putting it into my backpack.

So far I tried these things:

• Restarted the computer

• Checked the connection

• Tried (re)installing Windows 10, Windows 7, and Ubuntu

• Tried different batteries

• Changed the keyboard

These issues still persist until the trackpoint randomly starts working again(though removing and reinserting the battery usually fixes it). Would this be a motherboard issue?

I had a similar issue when building a W520, before I added the palmrest, the trackpoint would work intermittently. When I got a palmreat and attached the touchpad, the synaptics drivers started working, and the trackpoint was working good.

Perhaps the connection for the touchpad is coming loose, and causing a similar issue? Maybe try reseating the connection for the touch pad and try installing the synaptics drivers again?
