Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
Hi,
I have 2 ThinkPads: T60 with T2300 CPU and T61 with T7300 CPU. Both have 2x1Gb ram.
So, as I know i can put T9500 or X9000 to T61 (with Middleton BIOS) or even mod it further to utilize 1066fsb/core2quad cpus (have to read more about it).
Also I can use 667/800mhz 4gb memory modules for T61.
So, as I know best cpu i can put to T60 is T7600 as it is best 667mhz fsb cpu. Am I right?
Also, can I put 4gb modules into T60?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, you are right.
T420 i7 3612QM seabios; T420 i7 3630QM; T400 Q9100 seabios; T61 P9600; T60 libreboot; x62; x60s libreboot, led; x24 xiphmont led
Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
The most important question for me now: can I use 4gb modules in T60?
Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
No. The system won't even boot with one of these installed.

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
Thanks!
So, T60 limited to T7600 and 2 x 2gb... sad
So, i will continue my reading on T61 mod for 1066/quad.
One more HW question: are cooling fans same on T60 and T61 (as I saw same item sold for both) ?
Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
No they're not. T61/p heatsink for nVidia models is likely as good as it gets IMO.

If your T60 is a 15" 4:3 model, you could also put in the motherboard of a 14.1" 4:3 T61 and turn it into a FrankenPad.
Check this T6x Forum for all those Frankie posts.

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
No different than older laptops which maxed out at 1GB of RAM.
Effectively, those laptops could not be upgraded beyond Win-XP.
I am getting ready to convert that laptop to Linux.
Each upgrade of Windows puts more resource requirements on the computer till the computer can no longer run the next version of the OS.
Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
The question was not about heatsink+fan - just about fan part of this couple.

The fan itself is different, check pictures on Google or eBay.

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
Ok! Many thanks! (Stupid me - don't guessed to look at google).
Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
One little thing: T60 will not allocate more than 3Gb of RAM, even with 2x2Gb installed only 3Gigs are being used.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
Just to follow up on this thread. I just installed 2x 2gb RAM as the 1gb ran real slow. After the now 3gb of usable total RAM. My T60 Thinkpad is much faster and works great.
I'm running window 7 Pro. One more thing, I had to replace the fan over 2 years ago. Good to know parts are still available.

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade
the FSB 1066 mod is easy to do, but the quad mod is a no go if you dont have experience
the best you can go is X9000 with no mod and x9100 with FSB mod
the fans of T60 and T61 are different, but they are interchangeable on the heat sinks.
however I would highly recommend using a W500 or T500 heat sink for anything with an T9500, X9000 or X9100 in it.
i dont recommend using core 2 quads with nvidia chips, and use caution even with X9100 and X9000 and nvidia chips, the heat from those nvidia chips is a real problem.
