Undervolting X61

Hello

I own a Thinkpad X61 T7300 and i've trying to upgrade it to meet my needs without having to buy a new plasticy laptop that lacks 4:3 display. The main issue i was trying to deal with was the temprature. I read an article about undervolting your cpu in order to have lower tempratures. To anyone who has temprature problems believe me this is the real solution that costs nothing. To be honest it costs about half a day of work and it drops 10-15 deggrees at all levels of operation. The CPU works with multiplayers as a lot of you already know. I dont know if thats the case for all thinkpads but all my multiplayers voltages were set at 1.25V. After a lot of hours of testing here are my new stable values
6.0x =0.8500V
7.0x =0.8750V
8.0x =0.9375V
9.0x =0.9875V
10.x =1.0500V
SuperLFM disabled
IDA disabled

After everything copy the shortuc of CPU lock into startup folder and everything will run without any modifications every time you start your computer. Everyone want to ask something i would be happy to help.(Sorry for my english)

And you even can drop the temperature a few more degrees, if you also replace the (standard) wifi card with a half-card size Intel 6200N/6300N (2/3 antenna wires).
You'll need a half-size bracket, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/271542007656
But if you are handy with scissors, you can also make one from e.g. an old credit card

I'm surprised you managed to get a T7300 to 0.85v. When I was undervolting X60's and X61's I couldn't reduce the voltage of the lowest multiplier from the default (usually between .925v and .975v), either on Windows (using RMClock) or Linux.

Yes i am familiar with this change. The problem is that i live in Greece and the card is very difficult to be found. One solution is ordering from amazon uk but the card costs 15 and the shipping 14.5 , spending twice the money gets on my nervs. What i plan on doing is removing the card and placing a usb mini antenna. It comes in the size of a wireless mouse usb. Also i want to try removing the secondary fan, i believe now that i have low temps i can get away with this. I figured that is very noisy. Only problem is to hardware bypass the fan error, my solution is to connect the sensor pin to the sensor of the primary fan, hopefully it will work. If so i will keep you posted. If you have any other sugestion on upgrading a X61 i would be very happy to know as i enjoy it very much!

Seems each CPU has different limits. Comparing my percentage value reductions with thw article i was following i can say that i feel pretty lucky myshelf.

That's very true. The X61 T9300 I had before was .925v @ 8x multi, while another X61 with the lower-clocked T8100 could only go down to .95v.

Also i want to try removing the secondary fan, i believe now that i have low temps i can get away with this. I figured that is very noisy.

If the second fan is screeching or whining, try lubricating it.

For my X61 with T7500 CPU my setting for SuperLFM 6.0 x is .850 v and I am running RMClock v2.35.

On idle the CPU will hit .850 v .

I use the Intel WIFI 5300 and my palmrest gets only slightly warm.

I would like to know what kind of software do I need for core2duo ? I understand the theory behind, risks and benefits but I've never undervolted any CPU yet. I use MX linux (debian based). Thanks for any tips.

edit: I googled but many packages are for Intel's haswell and newer CPUs,.

Note: I haven't done this in a long while. I don't have the X61 anymore, and my current Thinkpad, the X220, does not support any undervolting. ;(

So, I'm going from memory and a few google searches.

First off, you need the phc kernel module to enable undervolting. However, it's not part of the Linux kernel, so you have to compile and install it yourself.
