Extended Desktop with X201/Win7?

#1 Post by lumenite » Thu May 17, 2018 10:42 pm

Hello,
I would like to use the extended desktop with my laptop. Here is my spec:
X201; Windows 7 64-bit.

I cannot find the option or control for it in my system.
Is it possible for mine to use the extended desktop?
If it is not the case, what is the problem? X201 or Win7 or Intel HD graphic?
Do I have to install an additional software for it?

Thank you.

If you are looking to do it wirelessly, I think you might need the Intel WiDi driver.
Intel Wireless Display for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad

That's what I used on my X220. Still, I needed a compatible receiver such as a Netgear PTV2000 to connect to.

If you are using a cable connection, then AFAIK Fn + F7 should bring up the option to extend or switch displays.

I saw this article, but this does not seem to apply for my x201. Moreover, it is for multiple displays not for multiple desktop with one monitor.
Thank you for your input.

Perhaps, I mispresented my issue. Although this wireless setup looks wonderful, I wanted to have multiple desktops not multiple displays.
I think a simple program can solve my issue. Now trying some of them. Thank you so much.

The term "Extended Desktop" which you used in your title and first post is typically used to mean 'extending the desktop over multiple monitors'. If you had said 'multiple desktop' from the start, you would probably get answers more like what you're looking for.

In any case, try the suggestions here:

Thinkpad 25 (20K7), T490 (20N3), Yoga 14 (20FY), T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X220 4291-4BG
X61 7673-V2V, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G, X32 (IPS Screen), A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
