Triple boot?

I have a X220 with a 64GB mSata and a 500GB 2.5" SSD. Ideally I'd like to have Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 7 alongside each other on the SSD. But I'd like to have CloudReady/ChromeOS on the 64GB mSata.

I removed the mSATA temporarily and installed Win 7 on the SSD. Then I removed the SSD and installed CloudReady on the mSata (its installer doesn't allow you to choose which disk to install to so that's why I removed the SSD temporarily). Both were working fine when I used the BIOS to select the disk to boot.

However then I came along with Ubuntu 18.04 and ran its installer. I selected "install alongside other OS" and it successfully installed or so I thought. Now things are a mess. Only Windows starts up. Nothing happens when I choose "Ubuntu" in the BIOS. If I select the mSATA I get "invalid image failed to read header".

Can anyone tell me the correct way to go about this please?

There are a lot of issues with what you are trying to do.

Ubuntu 18.04 is a new release, and is a little buggy.
Windows tends to clobber grub2 (the Linux boot loader)
on updates. None of these operating systems are particularly
good at coexisting.

You were right to remove the msata when installing on the (other) SSD.

In the past, I have used BCDEdit

to get W7 and Linux to coexist.

Another option might be to save the mSata for one of your other operating
systems, and installing ChromeOS to a USB Flash drive. I don't know how
practical that is, but you are way ahead if you can install each OS
on its own drive.

Get an X240, it can have 3 drives.

That's why I like old machines with Ultrabays.
If you want to switch between different versions
of Windows or Linux, it makes life a lot easier.

Old thread but something brought me back to this topic. I have a T420 with a DVD rom ultrabay. Are there any recommendations for setting up for switching as above between different versions of Linux and Windows? For example would Legacy be preferable to UEFI? Do you just use legacy BIOS and simply select the new OS via the BIOS boot list? Looking for tips on how to do this most efficiently.

It seems like everythings moving to UEFI only installs which I think would make switching using the Ultrabay very difficult.

I had a dual boot, dual drive setup awhile back running Linux Mint and Windows 7 Pro.

I followed the instructions from a Youtube video to the letter using EasyBCD and it was a perfect install without problem.

The boot menu appeared with an operating system to select from, and away it went. No having to get into the BIOS to select an OS to boot.

I'm not having as much luck with my dual boot, dual drive XP 64 and Windows 7 install. Both use different drive modes for the controller.
