I used to live in Leopardstown Heights (D18), at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, overlooking the Irish Sea!
One of these days I'm gonna move back there again (especially now that Bertie finally is a goner...)

Hey I work in Sandyford myself also, so good to meet you and thanks for the link, yep bertie has a lot to answer for you got out at the right time!
I've just tried the iso and am getting a phoenix phlash16 error, undefined error number -28640, ever come across that?
Edit: actually it completely worked as the 2010 error is not happening again, that grreat, only issue is its not booting to the drive (kingspec ssd) I have it set to master.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
I do get that error occasionally as well, but usually ignore it, since the BIOS flashes OK anyway.
It may have something to do with the setting of 'Flash over LAN' which should be enabled.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Thanks for the help, is there anything you'd recommend with the drive, I'm getting a flashing cursor on bootup, I've a 30 day money back guarantee from the retailer with it so can get a different drive if I can't get the kingspec working with the T43p. I would get the motherboard hack done if I was stateside, does it involve micro-soldering?

I'd return it for a Samsung 830 or 840 SSD.
You know that T4x drives go in upside down (label to the table) and that you should use the HD caddy and 4 screws?

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
The SATA mod requires some micro-soldering, but that's the easy part (especially if you have a big, 10x magnifier).
It's more complicated to get the SATA chip off properly, in a controlled environment with InfraRed thermometer.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Sorry for the gravedig, but I need some help and I think you guys have the answer.
I'm trying to update my T43's BIOS (Build 2668), and I can't seem to figure out how. I am using the modified BIOS to eliminate the 2010 error since I replaced the hard drive. The BIOS I'm using is the one you uploaded to your dropbox, the T43p-1YET65WW_SLIC2.1_no_1802_no_2010. I'm pretty sure that is the one I need, or at least according to the original post it is.
How do I update the BIOS with the .iso file? I have tried making my USB bootable and then copying the file over, but I get a "No Operating System" error and it won't do anything. I tried a program called ISO to USB and it didn't work either, same error.
I do not have a USB floppy drive, or an easy way to get one. I'm also using Windows 7 so none of the .exe's on Lenovo's website work either.
Can someone help me out? I have looked all over the internet and there seems to be several solutions, but I can't seem to get any to work.

Download the free Imgburn program, to create a self-booting CD from the .ISO file you got.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
I have been having this problem for the past 2+ years. I finally found a website which listed the compatible hard drives that would solve this problem. Based on my research, I found a compatible hard drive that works perfectly with an IBM Thinkpad t43p:
Fujitsu 40 GB 2.5" IDE Laptop Hard Drive HDD MHV2040AH
According to my research, this may have been the original default hard drive that came with the laptop. So far, no problems at all with it and no 2010 error message. Here is one of the pages with some good info on this problem:

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Well... of course- the ultimate solution is just to flash the BIOS with the modded BIOS indicated above, but I suppose it's good to have a list of the allowed HDDs in case.
I've flashed all my T43 motherboards on hand with the modded BIOS, because I just got tired of not being able to diagnose them with my Windows XP installations... and in case I ever sell them, I'd like to lift the hassle from the buyer.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Realblackstuff, I noticed your post along with the dropbox link, and when I downloaded it and compared the ROM file to the one from the Zip archive on thinkwiki.org, the two ROM images are slightly different, with 4 bytes being different if memory serves. The thinkwiki ROM file has a date of 11/22/2010, while the one from your ISO has a date of 3/27/2011.RealBlackStuff wrote:I used to live in Leopardstown Heights (D18), at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, overlooking the Irish Sea!

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15415342/no2010 ... o_2010.iso
I searched the relevant thread in the MDL forums around the 3/27/11 date, but didn't find anything related to this bios from either the bios's author or anyone else during that time. No change log, no comment, nothing.
Do you know anything about this difference? I'm of course afraid to brick my laptop, but I want to upgrade the machine to SSD and no way am I putting up with the 2010 error.
EDIT: oh wow I just noticed that post was from 2012. Oh well, I'll ask the question anyway.

Just download the darned file, burn a CD from the .iso and get it over and done with.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
I'm not saying you would. I just a few days ago found out about this fix, went to the MDL forums to get the file, found out the links were dead. Then in the process of googling for other locations for the file, I found 2 slightly different versions, yours and the one from thinkwiki.org.RealBlackStuff wrote:Just download the darned file, burn a CD from the .iso and get it over and done with.

I just wanted to make an informed decision about which one to use, and thought you might know what the difference was, obviously knowing more about the history of this than I do. That's all.
FWIW probably I will use yours since the date stamp is later, so maybe there was some tweak for checksum or some such. Plus you've obviously been around this board forever and are a reputable member.
Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
So as a final sort of wrap up of my experience in doing this mod, I wanted to post a few points that may help others:
1) There are 2 sources of the unofficial bios, the ISO link posted by forum member RealBlackStuff and a ZIP file hosted at thinkwiki.org (among other places)
2) Burning RBS's ISO to a CD and running it as-is will result (at least it did for me) in a red dialog box saying "error flashing bios, run repair utility" or something similar. Folks like me will poop bricks when they see this, thinking they just bricked their machine.
3) The ZIP file can be extracted and will flash without errors, however the .ROM file is older compared to the one on the ISO (11/22/2010 vs. 3/27/2011)
4) The difference between the two .ROM files is very miniscule, like 4 bytes. Also the two .ROM files have different file names
So, since I like to have the latest of everything AND my peace of mind doesn't like red flashing error messages, here's what I did.
1) Extract the ZIP file contents to one directory
2) Extract the ISO contents to another directory (I used Winrar for this)
3) Delete/rename the old .ROM file in the ZIP dir (there's only one .ROM), but make sure you write down or remember the file name
4) Copy the .ROM file from the ISO dir to the ZIP dir
5) Rename the new .ROM file from the ISO to the old .ROM file's original name that you wrote down or remembered from step 3
6) Run the winphlash.exe file in the ZIP dir and follow the instructions
All this may be unnecessary, but I feel at ease knowing not only I have the latest version of the unofficial bios, but also that it flashed successfully. And that later, if I get any weird BSOD's or something, it wasn't because I botched this up somehow.
Take it for what it's worth, follow it or don't follow it, your choice.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
I've used RBS's link he has up there on one of my cruddy T43s first, then my T43p. Both flashes were extremely easy(let the CD boot, go from there) and worked with no problems at all. Of course, both T43s had good batteries installed just in case. I highly recommend anyone flashing to make sure their battery holds a charge. Kinda given... but just throwing it out there.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Yeah I don't know what happened in my case, but it happened twice using just the CD. I got a clean flash when I followed my procedure outlined above which is why I wrote it up.Medessec wrote:I've used RBS's link he has up there on one of my cruddy T43s first, then my T43p. It does seem that the ISO version is a bit hit and miss. FWIW I did this on a T43p, model 2669-Q1U.
Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Hi, I was attempting to use the unofficial workaround BIOS to prevent the 2010 error on a T43p. I have downloaded the .iso and burned it to a disc, but it will not boot and just gives a black screen with a blinking cursor and eventually just boots to the OS as normal. I have also downloaded the zip files to a flash drive but I can't get them to work on my system, Lubuntu 14.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Nevermind. I figured out the problem. Does everyone get creeped out at the red warning? The 2010 msg is gone but my system seems to take longer to boot up. Is this normal?

Just in case: I did NOT put that file in the Dropbox, someone else (unknown) did.
It's just a link that I found and then published, a few years ago!
In other words: I'm innocent and not to be blamed, should anything go wrong!

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
I'am already download the file from link that share by RBS. The file is ISO then I'am burn with software ImgBurn, after that restart the laptop and show up Flash Bios Utility. The process update/flash Bios finish, restart the laptop with press power button.
And the result is system boot up without Error 2010. The file is worked.
Thank you to RBS for share the file.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
The bios update is written on a eprom chip on the motherboard and is separate from the HD
If you put the original HD back in there shouldn't be any problem.
As a side thought the WD drive is a PATA drive and outside the T43 it is probably redundant now.

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)
Another bump from the dead here! Does anyone happen to have a working download link to the T43 zip file? My last 'made from scrap parts' T43 is stuck at the 2010 and 1802 warning! I could grab a 'liked' wifi card from ebay, but the 2010 will be a pain as I will eventually put an SSD in the old girl!
The MDL download links are all dead, as are the few I have found on this thread.
I have a T43 2668
Thanks! (I presume the modified BIOS I flashed my T40 with to cure it's ills would be a very silly thing to try on the T43?)

Hey Dom, all of those links are dead now. I personally didn't have a use for any of them except T43p-1YET65WW_SLIC2.1_no_1802_no_2010.iso (which is still active on *my* site).RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 5:42 amThe whole collection can be found here: https://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/12478 ... However, they're at risk of all being lost now. Do you have a copy of those files so I can put them available back to the public?
